Police Confirm Multiple Fatalities in El Paso Walmart Shooting

At least 22 people were wounded Saturday during a shooting inside an El Paso Walmart, according to CNN. The extent of the injuries are not yet known.

El Paso Police Sgt. Enrique Carrillo said they had one male suspect in custody, and that there is no imminent threat. He also confirmed there were multiple fatalities, but did not provide an exact number.

“We are searching multiple scenes,” said Carrillo, adding that there “is no active shooting currently.”

At around 11 a.m. local time, the El Paso Police Department confirmed they had received “reports of multiple shooters” and urged the public to stay away from the Cielo Vista Mall area, where the Walmart is located. Other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the Texas Dept. of Public Safety, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are assisting police.

Sgt. Robert Gomez said officers also received reports of a shooting inside the mall.

CNN reports several businesses in the area were placed on lockdown.

“We never thought it would be so close to us this time,” said Oscar Collazo, who owns a seafood restaurant in the area. “You see on the news all the time, but you don’t think it could happen here until it does.”

Board Members Resign From Founders Ministries After Controversial Video Alleged Christian Leaders Were Leading Evangelicals Into Liberalism

Several board members have resigned from a neo-Calvinist evangelical group that released a trailer of a planned film linking prominent Southern Baptists with a conspiracy to promote social justice advocacy in evangelical churches.

The resignations, announced August 1 by Founders Ministries President Tom Ascol, come as some Southern Baptist leaders interviewed for the film have distanced themselves from it.

The trailer for the film “By What Standard?” highlights remarks in support of women, such as Southern Baptist Bible teacher Beth Moore, who have spoken in pulpits on Sundays. The Southern Baptist Convention’s faith statement says only men can serve as pastors.

The four-minute trailer also shows panel discussions on racial reconciliation at the 2019 meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention and on sexual abuse on the eve of that meeting. The abuse-related panel, hosted by the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, featured Moore and Rachael Denhollander, both sex abuse survivors and advocates for churches addressing the issue.

According to statements from two of the three resigning board members — which Ascol said were published at their request and with their permission on his organization’s website — the inclusion of Denhollander in the trailer released July 23 appeared to have been a particular sore point.

“Her presence in the trailer, along with other sexual abuse survivors, seemed to conflate sexual abuse with other problematic views of social justice,” wrote now-former board member Tom Hicks. “All the board members agreed that sexual abuse is very different from social justice issues, but we disagreed about how to go forward in light of the trailer.”

Fred Malone, a board member who said he was resigning after working with the group for almost 36 years, acknowledged in his statement that he was chagrined by the initial inclusion of Denhollander. Though he said the board had agreed to remove the “confusing image” of Denhollander from the trailer, he resigned because the board did not agree on what he saw as the sinfulness of its use.

“By associating her image closely with a confusing statement about powers of darkness, it appeared to many that we were somehow disapproving of her work against sexual abuse,” said Malone, who described himself as “an advocate against sexual abuse, a counselor of numerous victims for almost 35 years in my pastoral work, and a reporter of several cases.”

Denhollander tweeted that the use of her image “was not an accident.”

Trump Revels In ‘Bad News’ That Elijah Cummings’ Baltimore Home Was Burglarized

Trump is still angry with House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Elijah Cummings. The 68-year-old’s Baltimore home was reportedly robbed and 45’s response was vile.

Trump Tweeted, “Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!”

CBS reported, “Baltimore Police are investigating after the home of Rep. Elijah Cummings was broken into early Saturday morning. The burglary occurred around 3:40 a.m. at his Baltimore home in the 2000 block of Madison Avenue. At this time, police don’t know if any property was taken.”

Cummings released a statement about the burglary to the Baltimore Sun, “An individual attempted to gain entry into my residence at approximately 3:40 AM on Saturday, July 27. I was notified of the intrusion by my security system, and I scared the intruder away by yelling before the person gained entry into the residential portion of the house. I thank the Baltimore Police Department for their response and ask that all further inquiries be directed to them.”

It’s not clear if Trump’s attacks on Cummings is what caused the burglary. The president has been having a temper tantrum for weeks about Cummings, tweeting on July 28, “There is nothing racist in stating plainly what most people already know, that Elijah Cummings has done a terrible job for the people of his district, and of Baltimore itself. Dems always play the race card when they are unable to win with facts. Shame!”

He also ranted, “Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA.”

Guilty Or Not, A$AP Rocky Will Never Go Back To Sweden

TMZ reports, “Rocky left Sweden hours after the judges in his assault case decided to let him out of jail while they noodle on their decision, which is expected on August 14. A$AP returned to the U.S., and he won’t have to return for the reading of the verdict, because it will be a written ruling.”

More than likely he will be acquitted but TMZ says he “Rocky will never go back to the home of IKEA.”

NBC News also reports that the U.S. threatened Sweden with “negative consequences” if the rapper wasn’t released. The U.S. special presidential envoy for hostage affairs wrote to Swedish prosecutors, “The government of the United States of America wants to resolve this case as soon as possible to avoid potentially negative consequences to the U.S.-Swedish bilateral relationship.”

Sweden’s prosecutor-general, Petra Lundh, denied the demand, writing in a letter, “No other prosecutor, not even I, may interfere with a specific case or try to affect the prosecutor responsible.”

It’s not clear if the U.S. had anything to do with Rocky’s release, even though Trump will surely take full credit.

Earlier this week, according to a local media outlet in Sweden, prosecutor Daniel Suneson claims police have the entire video of the incident and “Now we gotta fuck this (inaudible)” is heard being said. There is also a surveillance camera from a restaurant that allegedly contradicts what Rocky posted on social media. You can watch the video, here

Rocky had been on a European tour when the fight broke out with local media blaming the rapper. The very next day TMZ published the video of the fight, which purportedly showed Rocky and two people in his entourage fighting against one other person. It also showed several men accused of Rocky and his crew of breaking a pair of headphones.
