350Africa: “Cyclone Idai is another terrible manifestation of the reality of climate crisis in Africa” 3/23/2019

While the UN-hosted Africa Climate Week takes place in Ghana aiming to strengthen African governments’ responses to the climate crisis, hundreds are dead and millions of people face severe impacts as cyclone hits Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

GLOBAL – Already considered by the UN as possibly the worst cyclone ever to strike Southern Africa, Idai has ripped through villages and towns in three countries over the last few days, taking over 1000 lives and leaving a trail of destruction. With winds of 195 km/h accompanied by lashing rains, Idai has already affected millions of people, causing floods, landslides and ruining crops and roads.

Showing that the threats under debate are real, the cyclone hit the continent at the same time governments, private sector and other stakeholders are meeting at the Africa Climate Week to discuss possible late commitments to stop global warming.

Landry Ninteretse, Africa Team Leader at 350.org, said:

“For a continent already wracked by its severe impacts, cyclone Idai is just another chilling reminder of the reality of the climate crisis. Whilst the most vulnerable communities are facing the real impacts of climate change on the ground, government authorities are yet to come up with real and strong commitments.”

“The government’s inertia and lack of concrete actions to solve global warming are an insult to people facing untold suffering in every corner of the continent, whereas new coal and mining infrastructure and carbon commodification continue to be allowed.”

More than two million people could have been affected across Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, and the real death tolls may not be known for many months as the countries deal with a still unfolding disaster. The port city of Beira, in Mozambique, was hit the hardest, with nearly 80 percent of homes and public infrastructures destroyed.

The number of cyclones and extreme floods in Southern Africa have been increasing in the last years due to the change in weather patterns likely caused by global warming. And while some countries appear to be already reducing carbon emissions and moving towards an energy transition that can contain the worse effects of climate change, Africa continues to be an open field for the fossil fuel industry, especially coal infrastructure.

Landry Ninteretse:

“The solutions to the climate crisis are also well known. They include ending coal extraction and mining in the very short term and stop funding new coal infrastructure – mines or power plants -, while accelerating investments in renewables.

International cooperation and funding from industrialised economies are yet necessary to combat climate change. And such efforts should start by not promoting or funding any fossil fuel projects anywhere in the world.”

Keith and Valeria Smith traveling today from Mexican border to stand trial in Baltimore’s ‘panhandler’ killing 3/23/2019

Keith and Valeria Smith left prison near the Mexican border Wednesday morning and began their extradition back to Baltimore to stand trial for the murder of Jacquelyn Smith.

Around 9:30 a.m., authorities escorted the father and daughter from the Cameron County Detention Center in South Texas, said Sheriff Omar Lucio, who runs the prison.

Coverage of the killing of Jacquelyn Smith »

“I checked with my jailer. They didn’t say anything. They knew where they were going,” Lucio said. “They didn’t create any kind of commotion.”

Their quiet departure marked the end of what police described as a run for the Mexican border with detectives closing in on the alleged murderers. Jacquelyn Smith’s husband, Keith Smith, said she was fatally stabbed after she rolled down a car window to give money to a panhandler in East Baltimore. But Baltimore police said Sunday that Keith Smith and his stepdaughter had been arrested in Smith’s death. Jacquelyn Smith, 54, of Aberdeen was an electrical engineer at Aberdeen Proving Ground. She was stabbed five times in her chest and killed in December, and the crime shocked the conscience of Baltimore residents. Her husband, Keith , and his daughter, Valeria , claimed the killing happened […]

Over 1,000 feared dead after cyclone slams into Mozambique (South Africa) 3/19/2019

Damages are seen in a street of Beira, Mozambique, on March 17, 2019, in the aftermath of the passage of the cyclone Idai. – A cyclone that ripped across Mozambique and Zimbabwe has killed at least 162 people with scores more missing and caused “massive and horrifying” destruction in the Mozambican city of Beira, authorities and the Red Cross said on March 18, 2019. JOHANNESBURG — More than 1,000 people were feared dead in Mozambique four days after a cyclone slammed into the country, submerging entire villages and leaving bodies floating in the floodwaters, the nation’s president said.

“It is a real disaster of great proportions,” President Filipe Nyusi said.

Cyclone Idai could prove to be the deadliest storm in generations to hit the impoverished southeast African country of 30 million people.

It struck Beira, an Indian Ocean port city of a half-million people, late Thursday and then moved inland to Zimbabwe and Malawi with strong winds and heavy rain. But it took days for the scope of the disaster to come into focus in Mozambique, which has a poor communication and transportation network and a corrupt and inefficient bureaucracy.

Speaking on state Radio Mozambique, Nyusi said that while the official death toll stood at 84, “It appears that we can register more than 1,000 deaths.”

Emergency officials cautioned that while they expect the death toll to rise significantly, they have no way of knowing if it will reach the president’s estimate.

More than 215 people were killed by the storm in the three countries, including more than 80 in Zimbabwe’s eastern Chimanimani region and more than 50 in Malawi, according to official figures. Hundreds more were reported injured and missing, and nearly 1,000 homes were destroyed in eastern Zimbabwe alone.

Doctors Without Borders said rivers have broken their banks leaving many houses fully submerged and around 11,000 households displaced in Nsanje, in southern Malawi.

U.N. agencies and the Red Cross helped rush emergency food and medicine by helicopter to the stricken countries.

Mount Chiluvo in central Mozambique was badly hit by flooding. One resident said he heard a loud noise, like an explosion, and suddenly saw a river of mud rolling toward his home.

“I was indoors with my children, but when we looked we saw mud coming down the road towards the houses and we fled,” Francisco Carlitos told Lusa, the Portuguese News Agency. The family lost their home and possessions but safely reached higher ground.

The country’s president, who cut short a visit to neighboring Swaziland over the weekend because of the disaster, spoke after flying by helicopter over Beira and two rural provinces, where he reported widespread devastation.

“The waters of the Pungue and Buzi rivers overflowed, making whole villages disappear and isolating communities, and bodies are floating,” Nyusi said.

The United Nation’s humanitarian office said the government issued flood warnings and said heavy rains were forecast for the next 24 hours, including in areas already hit hard by Idai.

The Red Cross said 90 percent of Beira was damaged or destroyed. The cyclone knocked out electricity, shut down the airport and cut off access to the city by road.

U.N. officials cited reports that Beira Central Hospital’s emergency room was flooded and without power, and that much of the building’s roof had collapsed. Doctors Without Borders said it had completely ceased operations in Beira hospital, local health centers and throughout the community.

The destruction in Beira is “massive and horrifying,” said Jamie LeSueur, who led a Red Cross team that had to assess the damage by helicopter because of the flooded-out roads.

The U.N. also warned of devastation outside Beira, in particular of livestock and crops.

“As this damage is occurring just before the main harvest season, it could exacerbate food insecurity in the region,” the U.N. humanitarian office known as OCHA said.

Mozambique is a long, narrow country with a 2,400-kilometer (1,500-mile) coastline along the Indian Ocean. It is prone to cyclones and tropical storms this time of year.

In 2000, Mozambique was hit by severe flooding caused by weeks of heavy rain, a disaster made much worse when a cyclone hit. Approximately 700 people were killed in what was regarded as the worst flooding in 50 years.

Mozambique won independence from Portugal in 1975 and then was plagued by a long-running civil war that ended in 1992. Its economy is dominated by agriculture, and its exports include prawns, cotton, cashews, sugar, coconuts and tropical hardwood timber.

More recently it has been exporting aluminum and electric power, and deposits of natural gas were discovered in the country’s north.

A BLACK MOTHER WAS CONVICTED ON FELONY CHARGES FOR TRYING TO GET HER KID IN A BETTER SCHOOL THAT WAS NOT IN HER DISTRICT 3/18/2019

A mother from Akron applied for her kids to go to school that was not in her district in 2011 was convicted on felony charges for lying about living in a district that her and her kids did not have residents in. I remember this because when i was young my mother sent me to a school where it was mostly white kids.At the time i was in grade school she did the same thing this woman did almost and she did not get in no trouble, but this woman did.

Her name is
“I felt that the sentence was draconian and really, the case of Kelley Williams-Bolar, it’s such a microcosm of everything that is wrong with America when it comes to access to educational quality, when it comes to economic inequality and when it comes to inequality in the criminal justice system,” Syracuse University Professor Boyce Watkins said at that time. r at the time she was homeless and wanted a better life for her two girls. It is total madness that in America you can’t send your kid to a better school then the one that is in your area. I mean , it is not High School or college. She just want her kids to get a good start in life and want to be a good mother and give them a future

It is sad that white people have no problems getting there kids in good school but this country is going to hand this woman a felony charge for the very same thing white people do!!

Because she lied she will have to serve ten days in jail and 80 days of community service for her action in 2011. On top of that William – Bolar was perusing her decree in teaching. This will no doubt her her chances on getting a teaching job as a teacher.

They hired a private investigator to track William-Bolar down where she had to pay 30,000 dollars in back tuition . When they come after you they come after you hard .

When white people get jammed up like this and get caught for sending there kid to a school they are not suppose to be in the Law gives them time to remove there kids from the school. In the case of black people this is not the case you are handed a felony charge that will sticjk with you where ever you go. To every application you ever sign for a job and destroy your credibility. Basically you are still in prison with out the bars until you have no choice to do something stupid and go to prison

Watch: Trial date set for Amber Guyger in Botham Jean murder case 3/18/2019

Amber Guyger

Its seem that Amber Guyger had a court date today . That no one knew about, This meet is just a assessment for miss Guyger’s defense . Also the judge would like to communicate with the defendant and see if there lawyer was talk to the defendant;

This part of the court room is a time that most people do not know about. Where the Lawyer can talk to there defendant about evidence and a game plan for the upcoming Trial that will take place on Aug 12.

A large photo of Botham Jean with photos and cards displayed on one of the tables in his childhood home in Castries, St. Lucia in September. Botham Jean was shot and killed in his apartment by off-duty Dallas police officer Amber Guyger. She was charged with murder.
(Vernon Bryant/Staff Photographer)

Amber Guyger is the former police officer that shot a man in his own apartment after she thought that Botham Jean was an intruder in her apartment that was one floor above Botham Jeans apartment.

After Botham Jean was shot Botham Jean can be heard screaming out “why did you do that”. Meaning, why did you shoot me? Just before he died. The particle video of the indecent was caught on camera by a bystander at the housing complex.

video of the shooting

Now , The former officer is in the fight for her life but she looks confident going in the court room today.

The world have to come to grips that this cop might get off. You know why i say that? It because this woman could have made that mistake thinking that Botham Jean was in her apartment. It’s true they have been seen with each other in pictures that the news displayed to further criminalize and and radicalize this case. My thought’s are that the former office had a hard day at work and was not pay attention what floor she was on and made a mistake. Because there was report that the door was already open when she got there.Or this woman is just stupid and made a deadly mistake. But , what flame the whole thing was not the shooting itself, But the reason why police went in Botham Jean home looking for drugs witch bang on suspicions of a cover up. But with further review of this case and looking at all the facts. In my unqualified opinion it was a devastating mistake.

In the time that we are having in the united state with all the racism every little or even large story can and will be transformed in some kid of racist ploy by the public and the media to inflame America even more into madness and hate and fear.

Amber Guyger is going to get off but the family can go after the police dept who employed in my Amber Guyger for wrongful death and can sue the department this will be logical move for the family. That if the killing Bathom Jean was not intentional and the defense can prove this.

in Concussion: African American’s as a race can no longer have the conclusion that every case of a police officer shooting a black man had racial intent accident happen and we as a people have to give this possibility in every case when it come to the police. We are all human and we make mistakes what we have to do is learn from our mistakes and work to lean on solving mistakes that happens in this crazy world we live in.

Senate Republicans revolt against Trump over border 3/14/2019

Rebel members of President Donald Trump’s party have helped pass a vote to reject his declaration of an emergency on the US-Mexico border.

Twelve Republican senators broke party ranks to side with Democrats, approving a proposal to revoke the proclamation by 59-41.

The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives last month backed the measure.

Following Thursday’s vote, Mr Trump tweeted: “VETO!”

Congress needs a two-thirds majority of both chambers to override a presidential veto, which is viewed as unlikely in this case.

Nevertheless, the vote will be seen as an embarrassing loss for the president on his signature domestic issue.

On Twitter, Mr Trump slammed the vote, calling it a “Democrat inspired Resolution which would OPEN BORDERS while increasing Crime, Drugs and Trafficking in our Country”.

It comes just a day after the Senate rebuked him on foreign policy by approving a bill to end US support for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

The Republican rebels on Thursday were Mitt Romney and Mike Lee of Utah, Marco Rubio of Florida, Roy Blunt of Missouri, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Rob Portman of Ohio, Jerry Moran of Kansas, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Roger Wicker of Mississippi.

Thom Tillis of North Carolina changed his mind minutes before the vote and said he would oppose it.

The Republican president declared the emergency on 15 February after Congress refused funding for a wall on the US-Mexico border, a key campaign pledge.

He aims to circumvent Congress and build his long-promised barrier by raiding military budgets.

It could free up almost $8bn (£6bn) for the wall, which is still considerably short of the estimated $23bn cost of a barrier along almost 2,000 miles (3,200km) of border, but far more than the nearly $1.4bn begrudgingly allotted last month by Congress.

Earlier on Thursday Mr Trump called Democrats “border deniers” and said any Republican opposing him would be casting “a vote for Nancy Pelosi”.

He says the barrier is needed to combat illegal immigration on the southern border which he has described as a “crisis”.

Democrats say the declaration is unconstitutional, Mr Trump has manufactured the border emergency and a wall would be a boondoggle.

The resolution to revoke the declaration passed the House by a margin of 245-182 in February. Thirteen Republicans sided with Democrats.

Lawmakers used a provision from the National Emergencies Act to overrule the president.

Most Republicans supported Mr Trump’s decision and accused Democrats of ignoring an emergency at the border.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the declaration is “the predictable and understandable consequences of Democrats’ decision to put partisan obstruction ahead of the national interest”.

What did the rebel Republicans say?

The renegade conservatives largely condemned Mr Trump’s declaration for setting up a dangerous presidential precedent while still agreeing with his border policies.

“This issue is not about strengthening our border security, a goal that I support and have voted to advance,” Mrs Collins said ahead of the vote.

“It is a solemn occasion involving whether or not this body will stand up for its institutional prerogatives and will support the separation of powers enshrined in our constitution.”

Mr Paul agreed Congress must fund border security, “but no president should go around Congress”.

He added that if the declaration stands, it could allow a future “socialist-inclined president” to pass environmental or gun control legislation.

Mr Romney echoed a similar sentiment, calling the use of an emergency an “overreach” that “is an invitation to further expansion and abuse by future presidents”.

Samora Mangesi: South African presenter ‘victim of racist attack’ 3/14/2019

A black South African TV and radio presenter has said he was the victim of a racially motivated attack after stopping to help a group of white people whose car had overturned.

Samora Mangesi tweeted photos of the injuries he sustained in the alleged assault, which he said happened on Friday.

He and his two female friends were called “monkeys”, he said.

When they asked why they were being insulted, he was beaten unconscious.

During the alleged attack in the city of Johannesburg, Mangesi, who is a presenter for SABC, said he received injuries to his face and was bruised along the side of his body after being kicked on the ground.

“Even whilst I was being put in the ambulance, one of these guys tried to run my friend over with his bakkie [pick-up truck] and the paramedics had to intervene.”

In the days following the attack, his memory was “very sporadic”, he said.

“As much as they say I was awake, I don’t remember being in the ambulance, arriving at the hospital nor much of the treatment.”

He thought about “letting it go and just continuing with my life”, but has now reported the incident to police, he added.

A police spokesman told the BBC that a case of alleged assault was being investigated.

News of the alleged assault has sparked anger on local social media, reports the BBC’s Pumza Fihlani in Johannesburg.

Dalia Dippolito’s conviction upheld; She won’t get out until 2032 3/14/2019

since the day of her arrest in 2009 have taken a visible toll. From a girlish suspect, to a groomed defendant, to a mother (still no word on the identity of the father), to a 34-year-old convict in jailhouse scrubs. About the only thing that hasn’t changed for the former Dalia Mohammed is her decision to keep her married name, although she divorced in 2011. Her high-profile courtoom

Dalia Dippolito
‘s prison-release date will remain Aug. 24, 2032.

The Boynton Beach woman’s efforts to win a fourth trial failed Wednesday when a Palm Beach County appellate court upheld her conviction for trying to hire — and thinking she had hired — a hit-man to kill her husband.

Dippolito committed her crime in 2009. She was convicted in 2017.

She was 26 when this saga began. She’s now 36 and a mom. She had a baby along the way — while on house arrest in 2016.

A camera crew from the television show “Cops” was there to record Dippolito’s hysterical reaction in 2009 when police staged a crime scene, and told Dippolito her home had been robbed and Mike, her husband, had been killed — just like the plot Dippolito had hatched with the alleged hit man.

The recording went viral and made the rounds on national news.

After Boynton Beach police arrested Dippolito, told her that her husband of six months was still alive and the alleged hit man was really a cop, Dippolito maintained her innocence.

It was a lover who went to police and revealed her scheme.

The jury at Dippolito’s third trial delivered a guilty verdict. The two previous ones had ended in mistrial.

The former escort is serving a 16-year term at a women’s prison north of Ocala in Marion County. She is one of approximately 3,000 inmates at the Lowell Correctional Institution.

Her lawyers argued entrapment in Dippolito’s latest appeal to the Fourth District Court of Appeal in West Palm Beach and balked at the presence of the TV camera crew at her arrest.

The defense lawyers also argued that jurors had improperly learned that their client had previously tried to poison her husband’s iced tea with antifreeze.

In a seven-page ruling, Judge Martha Warner rejected all of it.

The police officer didn’t pose as a hit man until after Dippolito’s lover came forward, the ruling said.

“It was the lover who first approached the police with his concern that [Dippolito] would kill her husband, not the other way around,” Warner wrote.

As for the television cameras, they weren’t involved in the surveillance or investigation, she wrote.

“They did not enter the picture until after [Dippolito] had already taken all the steps to solicit the murder of her husband.”

And although the trial judge had made a pretrial ruling that evidence about the poisoning episode could not be introduced at trial, it was with a caveat, the ruling said.

It wouldn’t be allowed “unless something made him change his mind during trial,” Warner wrote. “Something did occur during trial to cause the judge to rethink the earlier ruling.”

When the defense put Dippolito’s lover on the stand, he testified that he did not believe she “actually wanted to kill her husband.”

That opened the door, the judge ruled, for the jury to hear that the lover had also once said that Dippolito had tried to kill

her husband by poisoning him.

“It also explains why the lover initially approached police — because he actually did believe [Dippolito] was going to kill her husband,” Warner wrote.

Godfrey man sentenced for multiple bank robberies 3/14/2019

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A convicted serial bank robber will spend the next 20 years in prison for stealing thousands of dollars from banks across the bi-state region.

According to court documents from the US Attorney of the Southern District of Illinois, Dandre Brown was charged in a six-count federal indictment and pleaded guilty to the charges in November 2018.

Prosecutors said from November 2017 to January 2018, Brown robbed five banks in Alton, Godfrey, East Alton, Wood River, and Edwardsville, and stole approximately $35,000 in cash.

Brown also admitted to stealing $1,625 from a US Bank branch in Florissant, Missouri in December 2017.

Investigators successfully identified Brown after he dropped a robbery note with his fingerprints on it. US Marshals tracked Brown to Atlanta, Georgia and arrested him in January 2018.

His sentence includes paying over $35,000 in restitution and a three-year term of parole.

Brown had a criminal record including a 2006 conviction for armed robbery in St. Louis. He was on parole for that crime when he committed the bank robberies.

Gambino crime family boss Frank Cali shot and killed outside Staten Island home: sources 3/13/2019

Gambino crime family boss Frank (Franky Boy) Cali was gunned down Wednesday night in a gory hit in front of his Staten Island home, police sources said.

Cali, 53, was shot six times in the chest by a gunman in a blue pickup truck on Hilltop Terrace near Four Corners Road in Todt Hill about 9:15 p.m. Medics took him to Staten Island University Hospital, where he died.

A panicked family member called 911, telling a dispatcher Cali was run over before he was shot, though investigators were still looking into whether the gunman mowed the mobster down, sources said.

Police were searching for the pickup truck that raced from the grisly scene, sources said.

“There were like six shots, and then there were three more,” one witness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the Daily News. “The man was on the ground face-up. His head was by his SUV, and the truck was open.”

Cali’s distraught family members rushed outside after the shooting.

“Papa! Papa!” one man cried before lying on the grass, sobbing, the witness recounted.

One woman yelled into her phone, “Why doesn’t the ambulance come? He’s not breathing!” the witness told The News. Another woman “was just making loud noises,” the witness said.

“The cops came, and they were pushing on his chest, but he wasn’t responding,” the witness said.

A man answering Cali’s wife’s cell phone hung up on a reporter Wednesday night.

Cali, who served on the Gambino family’s ruling panel for several years, was elevated to acting boss in 2015, replacing then 68-year-old Domenico Cefalu.

A native of Sicily, Cali has deep mob roots, and his wife is the niece of Gambino capo John Gambino. His brother Joseph and brother-in-law Peter Inzerillo are reputed Gambino soldiers.

Cali rose quickly through the ranks of organized crime, becoming a powerful capo before the age of 40, less than a decade after he became an inducted member, according to court papers.

Federal authorities tried to put a stop to Cali’s rise in the late 2000s after he completed a 16-month sentence for an extortion scheme connected to a failed bid to build a Nascar track on Staten Island.

‘She wanted to get out’: Mentors remember 18-year-old recent high school grad fatally shot in West Baltimore 3/13/2019

Mentors remember the day Taylor Davis sat on the steps and cried. A student at Renaissance Academy High School, she was failing one of her classes and feared she wouldn’t be able to graduate.

But once her tears had dried, the mentors said, Davis got to work. She was determined to graduate on time, and, in June of last year, she did. She planned to work in health care.

Davis wasn’t afraid of the violence in her neighborhood, mentor Daijeon Powell said, but she was aware of it. “That’s where her drive came from,” he said. “She wanted to get out.”

The 18-year-old was fatally shot Monday night in Midtown Edmondson in West Baltimore, near her home on Appleton Street. Two other people, men ages 20 and 25, were injured in the same incident, according to police.

Asked whether Davis was the intended target of the shooting, police spokesman Jeremy Silbert said detectives were continuing to investigate the incident and that the motive was not known.

People who answered the door at her home Tuesday declined to comment on her death. Those who knew her at school say she was a bright young woman, driven to succeed.

“This young lady was awesome,” said Corey Witherspoon, who, like Powell, knew Davis through Seeds of Promise, a mentoring program at Renaissance Academy. “Just a ball of joy. If anybody needed help, she would help.”

Witherspoon remembers clearly her work ethic: She worked a side job after school.

“I could see a future for her,” Witherspoon said. “I could see her owning her own home.” Having a career. Her killing, he said, “was senseless. Irresponsible. And unforgivable.”

Powell and Davis were so close that she called him “Dad.” They often talked about life, and Powell would give her fatherly advice.

“I’ve lost a couple students,” Powell said. Renaissance Academy’s Anthony Grant, 17, was fatally shot in Baltimore three months ago. Seventeen-year-old Daniel Jackson, who attended the school before dropping out, was shot and killed in 2017 while standing on a porch. Ananias Jolley, 17, was fatally stabbed during a fight at the school in 2015.

“It hurts. Bad. especially this one,” Powell said. Davis “just wanted to be great. … She just lost her life for nothing. ”

Baltimore state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby said in a statement that Davis had participated in a crime prevention program sponsored by her office called Project17. She condemned Davis’ killing, as well as the death of Therone L. Jones, a 25-year-old Baltimore resident killed Saturday. Jones had been a part of an initiative called “Aim to B’More,” an alternative to incarceration for low-level drug offenders.

“It was apparent from my interactions with both of these young people that their futures were bright and full of promise,” Mosby said. “[W]e must continue to fight for our young people and tackle the senseless violence that claims so many precious lives in Baltimore.”

Instead, he and community activist Andrew Holmes urged those who know the gunman to come forward.

“We want the perpetrators apprehended,” Holmes said. “This young lady had a life … She had a right to walk. She had a right to come home from school.”

“Grandmama was preparing to go to school to watch her walk across the stage in a cap and gown,” Holmes said. “Now she has to watch her being lowered into the ground.”

NYPD Cop Accidentally Recorded Oral Sex With Her Sergeant on Body Cam 3/13/2019

The New York Police Department is reportedly investigating claims that a Brooklyn officer performed oral sex on her sergeant and captured the whole thing on her body camera. Citing police sources, the New York Post reports that the officer and her sergeant were on a recent “midnight tour in East New York’s 75th Precinct” when they started performing the sex act in the police car. The female officer reportedly tucked her body camera into her vest, assuming that it was turned off—but the audio recording on the camera is said to have caught both the act and the officer “gushing to her lover” about it as it was being performed. In a statement, NYPD said the “claims are under review” and sources told the newspaper internal investigators were still trying to obtain the audio. None of the officers were identified by name, and both cops remain on full duty.

This woman was an activist for Afro south American’s rights and a fighter for the LGBT community and two cops allegedly killed her, let’s find out why!!!!

The police have arrested two former police officers tuesday in the murder of a Rio de Janeiro councilwoman Marielle Franco and her driver,The murder shock south America and lead to many protest. It also shocked many countrries.Even though many has been questioned about the murder of Franco a prominent activist for Afro-Brazilian and LGBT rights.

Franco protesting giving hope

Maine : Its seems that the more i look at south America and the people down there i never seen so much corruption like what iam seeing since my time covering Africa. Assassinations, starvations, you name it the works!!! I did a story about Venezuela and the people eating out of the trash trying to fine food. How that country turn to socialism and now they got the civilian starving to death.

While Witzel praised police and investigators for the arrest, the case send a massive message that there is deep corruption in Brazil’s police force, including connections to the Military and paramilitary groups that controls a large part of the state

The suspects were id as Ronnie Lessa, 48, a retired military police officer, and Elcio Viera de Queiro,46, who was fired from his job in 2015 . The law reject both parties involvement of the shooting

Lessa was arrested near the same rio condominium complex where president Jairo Bolsonaro has his hom, Police said

Maine:Its seems that Brazil is having problems and south America it self is braking down with corruption i will keep track of this story as it continues but as an African American we should pay more attention to our brothers and sisters in Brazil and south America we hav alot of them down there . i hope the arrest the people that killed this woman because in a civilization we only can be civil

In Addition: The people that murdered this woman and activist stood out side a meeting she attended and waited for two hours and killed her on the spot. it is a sad day in Brazil where you freedom cannot be freely be displayed and fighting for people that don’t have a voice can get you murdered!!!! if stuff like this prossit in countries like Brazil how can you have order?

A Columbus Police Officer Kidnapped Unsuspecting Females Under Flag Of Arrest And Forced Them To Have Sex With Him 3/13/2019

A Columbus Police officer named Andrew Mitchell who is 55 years old, Been on the force about 30 years and a veteran of the Ohio Police Department, was arrested by the FED”s on Monday.Department of Justice said that Mitchell kidnapped serval women under the banner of arrest before forcing them to have sex with him in exchange for them to be set free.

Mitchell, who was place on desk duty in september after being under the investigation for the fatal shooting of a 23 year old Donna Castle Berry, a mother of two Mitchell in the process of shooting Mis Castleberry manage to stab her to death with unissues to the police like a knife

Donna castleBerry Shot and stabbed by Columbus Police

Report say that Castleberry had a knife as well so the cop did not have the knife he took it away from his attacker.

Maine: I thought before you get into a police cruiser they are suppose to frisk you that is standard before you are hand cuffed for a crime . These cops now a days are let criminals in there car with out a pat down or hand cuffs that is very dangerous on there side of things. Unless the cops in Columbus want something to happen!!!!!

Reports also says that this cops rental properties have been link to over 600 calls to police since 2013 His arrest was first reported by WBNS.

Maine: What kind of cop is this ? To have over over 600 hundred calls to your properties it smells of domestic violence and the police covered it up for some reason. Totally unprofessional if you ask me!!! Why was this man on the force for so long if this many calls was link to his properties?

Mitchell , was a detective assigned to a vice unit in march of 2017 after joining the force in 1988,Mitchell have’s extra police protection since being place on leave. He was indicted last week on three counts of depriving individuals of their civil rights under the flag of law and two counts of witness tampering.along with a single charge of obstruction of justice. His indictments was made public Monday.

The FBI got personal and asked Mitchell did he have sex with prostitutes and he lied to the FBI

Maine: This man is sick i do not know how he have a job any where much less the Columbus Police Department!!! And i question him on the killing of Donna Castleberry. You mean this woman was in your car , you did not frisk her or put hand cuffs on her before you put her in the car with you? On top of that Donna Castlebery manage to hide a knife to kill a police officer ,really? Something is extremely fishy here!!!

Of hundreds of arrests,Mitchell victimizes at least three women, Trading sex for there freedom.

As the district atorney process for a grand jury at this trial Donna family is in pain
said Bobbi McCalla, Donna’s sister. “It will be seven if it goes into April since my sister was killed. I think we are due answers.”

“It’s been hell,” said Donna’s mother Michelle Dalton. “It’s still sad, it’s still really sad.

Ethiopian entrepreneur faces execution China at their friend asked her to deliver shampoo which she did not know contain cocaine 3/12/2019

An Ethiopian Entrepreneur ifs face execution in China because she trusted a friend. The friend ask her to transport what she thought was Shampoo Turn out to be Cocaine.

China has strict laws that do not allow drug dealers to go unpunished and this lovely woman is facing the death penalty if convicted. law enforcement is looking for the friend but her friend disappeared and now she is facing death by her self.

Maine : I have no idea why anyone would want to live or even visit China Because if you break a law chances are you are not making back to the country of your birth if the violation is serious enough. You have to becareful of who you call friends now a days.

27 year old Nazawait Abera who is an engineering graduate was arrested on drug trafficking charges and could face death if found guilty.

Maine: This was a child hood friend that set her up in China totally crazy if you ask me. Do you know how much she feels betrayed by that friend. It is not like she just met her on the plane!!!!

Family and friends are sick to there stomachs about what happened to there loved one and losing alot of sleep over it. One friend said: we are fearful and angry that this and they do not know where to go and cry.

The family have not heard from Narawit at all every since the news broke out about here arrest.

Maine: in conclusion, this is a beautiful woman that had a terrible friend that brought her to China to mark her for death with law enforcement in China. That had to be her only plan. Some how the friend made it back to Eithiopia where law enforcement caught her then some how her friend excaped law enforcement and at this time that person is on the run.I think they let her friend go!!!! There is alot of corruption in these country and someone had it out for this woman because they used a Mobb tactic!!! Its not your a stranger that kills you in the Mobb it is always a close friend that knew you for years. I hope she beats this case but iam not beating on it because she is in China.

What The Heck Is Going On In This Country! White Woman Killed Three People While Texting And Gets Probation 3/12/2019

Maine:”White privilege shows it is ugly face in America once again white woman was texting while she was driving and killed three people all she got was probation”.

Zoe Reardon is an example of the epitome of white privilege. After killing three people, including three month old baby, she will only be on probation for 36 months.

The 18-year-old into a plea deal on Monday to avoid any jail time for possible texting while driving her Jeep to Woodstock, Georgia, before she collided with three people and killed them all in 2017

“You are pretty,” Cherokee County state court judge Alan Jordan said to Reardon sympathetically.” You got a light, have you. I expect this is something you are going to have a hard time dealing with the rest of your life.

Reardon killed Kathy Deming, Kate Hunt and Hunt’s three months old daughter Riley. They are walking to a concert at Woodstock amphitheater.

“Riley died in the collision. Deming died two days later. Katelyn Hunt was taken off life support. A few days after the crash, changes having taken measures to follow her wishes as an organ donor.

Maine: that is heartbreaking. This woman knowing dong well that you are not supposed to text and drive in any city or state in the United States it is illegal. One day you hear next day you all gone. It amazes me that this woman was complimented by Judge says she was young. Those words should never come out of a judges mouth because it shows favoritism. The law supposed to be blind.

Reardon,Defense? Reportedly, she claimed the family just”walked right in front”of the car. However, she Sent text messages to her father just moments before the crash, which Reardon’s team argued did not distract her. Her attorney, Manny Aurora even said.’ Sometimes an accident is just an accident. You do not need to try and force blame on somebody.

Maine: this woman is cold-blooded. Any thing to gain her freedom even when every body in the court knows that if you are texting while driving. You have to take your eyes off the road. The moment that she was texting she hit those people because there is records of her using her phone and same time she killed those people. An accident is not an accident. You break the law. In the process of killing three people.

Reardon, Who turns 19 on Tuesday, told the family,” I regret this the first time he ever heard from me. I often wanted to reach out. I can imagine how much pain you are experiencing. All the heartbreak and loss. I am truly sorry.

Social media has been outraged been the week sentencing, especially considering the through no fault of their own. Ironically, Reardon, while being doing probation in Texas, but she is in college

Maine: that is how it works in these strange days that we having in this country called America. If this is a sign of what the new world order is going to be the world has seen nothing yet. I have no idea how you get probation while killing three people premeditated or accidental. Somebody has to look at the judges background. Do you have a daughter? Does his daughter look like The defendant. What will make him make this decision? I think when it comes to the case a judges background need to be public knowledge to assess any type of favoritism, bias, or racial traits that can affect a judges decision. I believe that the courthouse should have some kind of internal affairs department for the judges, lawyers, bailiffs. We no longer can afford just one man, even if he is a judge to make godlike decisions of the People’s and the citizens of these United States.

The Little Black Girl Whose Body Was Found In A Duffel Bag Has Been Identified 3/12/2019

The Los Angeles county medical examiner identified the body of a girl found dead this week on Hacienda Heights hiking trail as nine-year-bold Trinity love Jones.

Investors have detained two persons of interest in this case and they are actively continuing there investigation. Name of those detained were not immediately known, however, investigators said there considered a person of interest. Motorola’s advanced files at this time.

The child’s body was discovered by county workers. Around 10:30 AM Tuesday in a duffel bag at the bottom of an embodiment close to Colima Road hacienda Boulevard near the HSI Lai Buddhist temple, Lieut. Scott Hoglund said during a press conference Wednesday.

Maine: is a shame that people perceive themselves to kill a young lady like this. There is no word that can describe a young lady stuff in a duffel bag with half of body parts missing. How can somebody do this to you only. Why is it that these crimes are targeted only to African-Americans.

The child’s death is being investigated as a homicide as the general was the font you love Jones said he learned of his younger daughter’s death through a telephone call.

Maine: what is going on in the world where father is lost track of his daughter so much that he found out about his daughter’s death to a telephone call. Parenting in this country, especially in the black community has to greatly improve. Where is the mother to do so story I read about nothing of the mother should be suspect.

Family members create a memorial candles, flowers, below, stuff animals and photos at the trial where Trinity was found.

“Words cannot explain what is now,” Jones said at a memorial site. “I just want answers. I just want justice. She was just the best full Character, full of life, full of joy.”

An autopsy has been completed on the body of the girl believed to be between eight and 13 years old and described as black, about 4’4″ tall and weighing about 55 pounds. The coroner’s office as the only release because it death.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department release a composite sketch of the girl Wednesday, all with a photo of a paint longsleeved top with the words”future princes hero”and gray pants with pandas on them that she was wearing body was found.

Investigators believe the child’s remains were that at that location within 24 hours of being found that the child died roughly 48 hours before her body was discovered.

“This animal for the department, for the community, and were going to do our best to figure out what day two suspicions death of the child involved,” Sheriff Alexander said in a news conference.” I directed the investigation to spare no effort to find out what happened.”

“Investigators did not observe any obvious signs of trauma to the body. Alex said.

This is believe the girl was left in his garage adjacent to the equestrain trail early evening hours of Sunday, about a day before the body was found.

Authorities are seeking. Tell him it was who saw anything suspicious on the Boulevard included a vehicle pulled over to side during that timeframe or recognize the composite sketch of the girl all cool bleaching was where. Investigators yet know if the girl was alive or dead when she was placed inside the bag, Hoglund said.

“The motive at this time is a no,”Hoglund told reporters.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the shares, cyber at 323-89-0550, or crime stoppers at 800-222- tips

Maine: my first thought about this story is worth it parentsMaine: To often, Nowadays, parents do not pay close attention to the whereabouts of the children, was it the father found out the death of her through a phone call. Especially what happened to the presence of the mother was she involved . There is no mention of the child’s mother throughout this whole story.

How did the killer Kidnapped this child. The message on this child shirt just adds to the horrific point of this story. To me black kids are being snatched up without the parents awareness was born on.

I hope that people see this story and learn the dangers of this world. Keep a close eye on you beloved children and all times. Resting his little sister is your destination.

The Interview where R Kelly broke down And Pleaded With America That He was Being Falsely Accused Of Sleeping With Under Age Teens 3/6/2019

R Kelly, an interview was accused of having sex with underage teenagers. This man is being accused and dragged in the mud through the media and law-enforcement without even seen a day in court. R Kelly was crying on national TV and pleading with the public that charges that were brought against him was false. Why would with my past why would i sleep with underage woman that does not make sense.

Today in America, people are being accused of untold unbelievable crimes that has not seen there day in court. The American public forget that a man is innocent until proven guilty. Somehow in this great nation of ours. We have turned that upside down where as a simple accusation can have you fighting for your life.

Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson and many more celebrities are being accused or have been accused of sexual misconduct by many women coming out of blue with accusations. With these women they convict and imprison these men before they stepped inside a court room. With the help of the media there is no need for courts. If this case is being spread throughout the world and United States before the juror gets selected. I will believe this not what America’s forefathers intended. Due to the fact that TV was not invented yet.

American people has to be reserved in a judgment before a verdict is hand out. America and the American people do not want this kind of mindset of guilty be for instance, come into the mainstream. If this happens nobody will be safe from law enforcement or the evil politicians that is developing this mindset in the people using the media, will be safe!!

This Will Open a whole new Pandora’s box with law enforcement carries out there duties enforcing the law . Someone told me that crap float down hill., Well! The crap is starting to float downhill. From celebrities to normal people that will turn America into something we will not recognize in the near future. So look at the video and you give me your thoughts

Music rapper kills mother she was a businesswoman and entrepreneur to get at her bank account to floss

A rapper is headed to trial for the 2012 murder of his mother to get to her bank account. This young man is seen in videos tossing money in the crowd just after his mother was murdered. When I read this it was something vicious. Something I thought could never be possible. A young man hired someone to kill his mother to get to her money.

It is amazing how vicious these kids are nowadays!!! No more the days son or daughter tries to get your purse and get your car keys and take a joyride. No,longer the days where your kid will steal a few dollars to party on the town. Now these little beast just plainly killing their parents to get what they want.

The story is very disturbing and it takes place in Chicago. One of the most violent cities in America has taken it to a new high. Never would i have thought that any person with a sane mind would ever thing about doing this

Look at the video there was no sign of concern in the young man’s face walking with his friends, going to the bank account and on top of going to the bank account he filming the whole session.

Now this is her only son that comes threw her legs to be born in the world .You never knew that same son that she caressed loved one day end her life. There is a demonic force happening in the African American community. Officer who shot Tamir Rice Gets A New Cushy Job As A Police Officer In A Small Town. “Ain’t America Grand Giving A Murder A Second Chance” 3/5/2019

(CNN)The police officer who fatally shot 12-year-oldTamir Rice in Cleveland four years ago was recently hired by a police department in eastern Ohio, CNN affiliate WTOV-TV reported, citing the department’s police chief. Timothy Loehmann is one of six new officers hired in the Village of Bellaire, about 65 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. The town on the Ohio River has a population of about 4,170.Bellaire Police Chief Richard “Dick” Flanagan told WTOV that Loehmann applied to several police departments and still wanted to be a police officer. “He’s not quitting on being a police officer. He made a decision (in 2014) that’s going to stay with him the rest of his life,” Flanagan said. “Like anybody else, if you make a mistake, someone’s got to give you a second chance, give someone opportunity. There is no worry, I stand behind this officer … I’ll stand behind this officer like I will any of my officers.”CNN’s efforts to reach Flanagan during the weekend were not successful.Rice family attorney Subodh Chandra said on Twitter that Tamir’s mother, Samaria Rice, feels that “Loehmann doesn’t belong on any police force anywhere & shouldn’t be foisted upon the citizenry anywhere.””But she hopes that this does mean he will never return to Cleveland,” Chandra’s tweet read.

The shooting and verdict

Loehmann shot and killed Tamir Rice in 2014 after a witness called 911 to report that someone was brandishing a gun in a park. The caller noted that the person was “probably a juvenile” and that the gun was “probably fake,” records show. The dispatcher did not share those qualifiers with Loehmann or the officer who was driving, Frank Garmback. Video of the incident shows Loehmann, then a trainee, arriving in a squad car driven by Garmback. The car moves close to Rice, and less than two seconds after the vehicle arrives, Loehmann shoots the boy. Loehmann and Garmback both said in written statements dated November 2015 they thought Rice was pulling out a real gun from his waistband.

A grand jury decided not to indict Loehmann or Garmback. However, Loehmann was fired in May 2017 for being untruthful on his job application. He applied to the Cleveland Police Force in 2013 after resigning from the police department in the suburb of Independence, and after failing a written exam while applying for a job with police in Maple Heights. An internal review panel investigating the Rice shooting found that Loehmann would have been fired from the Independence department had he not resigned.

Garmback was suspended for 10 days for violating tactical rules relating to how he drove to the shooting scene. A dispatcher was suspended for eight days in March 2017 for failing to relay a citizen’s 911 report that Rice was “probably a juvenile” and that his gun was “probably fake,” and another officer was suspended for two days at that time for working a second job near the shooting scene without permission. The city of Cleveland settled a wrongful-death lawsuit in 2016 with the Rice family for $6 million.

Husband And Daughter conspired And Killed The Lady of The House 3/5/2019

At first, the stabbing death of Jacquelyn Smith on a Baltimore street corner in December sounded like an act of charity gone wrong.

The way her husband, Keith Smith, told it to reporters, the couple and Mr. Smith’s daughter, Valeria Smith, had been driving home after celebrating Valeria’s birthday. Jacquelyn Smith, 54, asked him to stop the car so she could give money to a woman holding what appeared to be a baby outside in the rain, he said. Then, Mr. Smith said, a man ran up to the car, tried to snatch Jacquelyn’s necklace through the open window and stabbed her.

“The last thing I thought, that they were going to take my wife’s life,” Mr. Smith told reporters shortly after his wife’s death, his arm around Valeria Smith, Jacquelyn’s stepdaughter, who was sobbing, according to video published by The Baltimore Sun. “I got to live with that every day.”

But on Sunday, law enforcement authorities announced a twist in the case: The attack was staged, Michael Harrison, acting commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department, said. Mr. Smith, 52, and his daughter, 28, were arrested by the authorities in Texas on Sunday and charged with first-degree murder in Ms. Smith’s death on Dec. 1. Sheriff Omar Lucia of Cameron County, Tex., said that Mr. Smith and his daughter were arraigned on Monday on murder and other charges, including aggravated assault. Sheriff Lucia said they were being held in jail without bond.

“We now know that that was not true,” Mr. Harrison said, referring to Mr. Smith’s account of how Ms. Smith had died. “It was not a panhandler,” the commissioner said at a news conference attended by Mayor Catherine E. Pugh and Marilyn J. Mosby, the state’s attorney for Baltimore.

Mr. Smith told the police that a female panhandler had asked for money to help her feed her young child, according to a police report.

Texas Highway Patrol officers arrested Mr. Smith and Valeria Smith “without incident” from their rental car, a Toyota Camry, Lt. Johnny Hernandez, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said in an interview on Monday. They were coming out of the parking lot of a convenience store at about 10 a.m. Sunday in Combes, Tex., about 35 miles from a border crossing with Mexico.

Lieutenant Hernandez said he did not know what they were doing in Texas or how long they had been there. It was not immediately clear whether Mr. Smith or Valeria Smith had legal representation.

The announcement of their arrests was a stunning turnaround in a case that had stoked concerns about the city, which has one of the nation’s highest murder rates, and sympathy nationwide. Oprah Winfrey, the talk show host, said she would think twice about giving money to panhandlers.

Ms. Smith was a civilian contractor with the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense in Maryland, which manages the nation’s supply of defense equipment, a spokeswoman for the agency said on Monday.

Mr. Harrison, named the city’s fifth police chief in four years in early January and charged with trying to solve some of its most persistent problems, declined to answer reporters’ questions on Sunday about an alleged motive, saying the investigation was “ongoing.”

Mr. Smith moved out of Jacquelyn Smith’s house two weeks ago, said Marcel Trisvan, Ms. Smith’s brother, and handed the keys to him, saying he was moving to Florida, according to The Sun on Sunday. Mr. Trisvan did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.

Officials at the weekend news conference announcing the Smiths’ arrests said the suspects had exploited the city’s image in allegedly trying to cover up the killing. It was one of more than 300 in Baltimore in 2018, according to The Sun.

“People take advantage of Baltimore,” Mr. Harrison said. “We want to make sure the truth comes out and justice is done.”

Mayor Pugh, referring to Mr. Smith and his daughter, added: “These individuals took advantage of a situation — a city that is already dealing with its own problems.”

A Baltimore Sun column on Monday said the initial story of Ms. Smith’s death, about five years after the couple were married, had initially “amplified the worst feelings about Baltimore, a real sense of foreboding around every corner.”

In December, at a news conference, Mr. Smith said that he had called 911 to report the alleged attack, and that he had been instructed by a dispatcher to apply pressure to stanch the blood flow of his wife’s wounds as he drove her to the hospital.

He said then that Ms. Smith “felt moved” when he saw the woman and baby in the rain. He jumped out of the car, he said, and tried to run after the woman and the man after the stabbing, but returned to the vehicle when he heard his wife’s screams.

“I try to help people, but we are in our last days, and we need to understand there are some desperate people,” Mr. Smith said.

Jacquelon Gaskins and her children, ages 1 and 6, were shot by the boyfriend who she was planning to leave, her relatives say By Jeff Truesdell this link opens in a new tab March 01, 2019 11:49 AM

An Illinois mother and her two children are dead in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide carried out by the children’s father.

Will County coroner Patrick O’Neil confirmed the identities of the victims, and said all four died “in what appears to be a domestic incident,” according to a news release.

Dead are 28-year-old Jacquelon Gaskin, her 6-year-old daughter Gianna Lee, 1-year-old son Giovanni Lee, and 34-year-old Brandyn Lee, who relatives and neighbors of the deceased woman identified as her longtime boyfriend and the father of the two kids, reports TV stations WLSthis link opens in a new tab and WBBMthis link opens in a new tab.

Gaskin’s mother, Rusha Brooks, said the couple who shared a two-story home with the children in Joliet were growing apart, and her daughter wanted out of the relationship.

“He was like a controlling type of guy, and I think she was trying to break away from that, and I think that was the trigger, because otherwise why would you?,” she told reporters, according to WBBM. “That was his last bit of control, was to take everybody away, not just himself.”

She said her daughter “was loved, and she is loved, by a lot of people, and he just didn’t disrupt his life, he disrupted a lot of lives.”

According to multiple reports, police said they responded to a report of shots fired inside of the couple’s home just after 10 p.m. Wednesday. Neighbors reported a woman’s screams after she apparently discovered the bodies.

All four victims were on the second floor, police said.

Authorities have not officially identified the shooter, but law enforcement sources told WBBM the investigation likely will show Brandyn Lee shot himself after first shooting his girlfriend and their two children.

Autopsies for the victims were scheduled for Friday.

Gaskin was studying to become a nurse, family members told WBBM.

“Jesus and God are going to handle all of this,” said Terrance Brooks, Gaskin’s stepfather, reports WLS. “My grandchildren and my daughter are going to heaven.”

3-year-old girl got her braid ripped

3-year old Ariana Reddick

Oswego, IL — The parents of Ariana Reddick, a 3-year old girl from Illinois, are outraged after a daycare worker allegedly pulled a braid from their daughter, ripping it from her head. They have since filed a police report against the center and talked to the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services. Robin Reddick, the mother of Ariana, said she received a call from KinderCare Learning Center, where she dropped her daughter off on Tuesday last week, saying that something happened to her daughter but it was not an emergency.

But when she went to the daycare to pick up Ariana on that day, she found that her braid appeared to have been ripped from her head.

“It looked very painful,” Reddick told NBC News. “I can see hair follicles of her hair.”

Ariana’s teacher told her that they allegedly noticed the missing braids after nap time.

She and her husband took Ariana to the doctor, who told them that a high level of force has been used to be able to result in that damage.

Meanwhile, the daycare did not comment about the incident but stated that they immediately reached out to the family when they noticed the missing braid.

“Although no injury occurred, we also reported the incident to state licensing, so that they may look into the matter for themselves, if they so choose,” the statement read.

Venezuela Is Starving to death.Once a rich country and after adopting socialism ,this happened!!! America want to adopt Socialism as well 3/4/2019

Once South America’s richest country, Venezuela implemented a socialist agenda.

Now people are starving to death.

Venezuela’s inflation, estimated by the International Monetary Fund to reach 720% in 2017, is the highest in the world. The economy has shrunk 27% since 2013, according to local investment bank Torino Capital; imports of food have plummeted 70%.

Huge numbers of Venezuelans are bringing their children as they rummage through garbage for food; farm crops are routinely stolen; groceries are looted. As The Wall Street Journal notes, things have become so dire that families padlock their refrigerators.

According to the National Poll of Living Conditions, 75% of Venezuelans said they had lost an average of 19 pounds last year. As a result, riots have erupted; by last Friday, more than 35 people had been reported killed.

Livia Machado, a physician and child malnutrition expert, said there has been a marked upswing in emaciated infants brought to the Domingo Luciani Hospital in Caracas. A recent study from the Catholic charity Caritas of 800 children under the age of 5 in Yare and three other communities showed that in February nearly 11% could die from severe acute malnutrition.

Meanwhile, government officials will not permit food and aid to be imported. 90% of homes in the country could not afford food to feed their residents.

As Juan Carlos Hidalgo wrote roughly one year ago:

During the course of a decade and a half, the government received nearly $1 trillion in oil revenues— the equivalent in today’s money of more than seven Marshall Plans. This was enough to mask the effect of hundreds of expropriations, stifling economic controls, and otherwise running the private economy into the ground. Part of the windfall was spent on social programs, which temporarily improved some social indicators and made the regime popular among poor Venezuelans.

But a couple of years ago, the then minister of education admitted that the aim of the regime’s policies was “not to take the people out of poverty so they become middle class and then turn into escuálidos” (a derogatory term to denote opposition members). In other words, the government wanted grateful, dependent voters, not prosperous Venezuelans. What defenders of the Bolivarian revolution have seldom acknowledged is that a significant portion of the oil revenues was simply stolen. It is difficult to specify an exact figure thanks to the government’s opaque finances, but two former ministers-turned-critics claim that it amounts to $300bn— an estimate consistent with independent analysis.

A Florence man got a Jake The Snake sleeper hold applied on him by police 3/4/2019

.

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Members of the National Action Network said they won’t give up until justice is served in an investigation involving allegations of excessive force by two Florence County deputies as they were arresting a man earlier this month in Florence.

The group held a news conference Wednesday outside the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. They held signs saying, “No Justice No peace.” The group is advocating for 34-year-old Tyler Fleming.

Fleming said he was assaulted by two deputies at a store two weeks ago on East Palmetto Street in Florence.

Two people said they witnessed the entire incident and can’t understand why deputies had Fleming pinned to the ground in what appeared to be a choke hold while in handcuffs.

Fleming said all he did was ask a deputy for a ride to Mullins.

Elder James Johnson with the National Action Network said he is upset that the two witnesses haven’t been interviewed by an investigator assigned to look into the allegations. James said he is also very upset the two deputies involved in the incident are still working and haven’t been placed on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.

The two witnesses, along with several others, expressed their frustrations with the investigation. The group is asking to meet with Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone about their concerns.

“We tried to meet with him. To communicate with him by phone. He refused to call my office back. This led me to believe that he don’t want to resolve this problem. And I want to send a strong message to him that choking Mr. Tyler will not go away. Not one bit. So, I would like to sit down and talk with Mr. Kenney Boone about the two officers,” said Johnson.

Sheriff Boone said a special investigator was assigned to the case from the day the allegations surfaced.

In a statement, Boone said, “While being detained for further questioning, the subject refused to follow reasonable verbal instructions and resisted officer’s attempts to properly detain him, forcing the officer to take the subject to the ground. “

Fleming is being represented by attorney Cheveron T. Scott.

Scott said, “Tyler is in good spirits and looks forward to his day in court on these criminal charges but more importantly, he would like to do whatever he can to make sure that this does not happen to another human being.”

Police Officer cam was turned off before a man was handed a beat down 3/4/2019

DeSoto police officers accused of brutalizing a family after a 911 call last August either did not activate their body cameras or wear them during some of the most heated moments, according to police officials and footage obtained by The Dallas Morning News.

The lapses ran afoul of the Dallas suburb’s policies requiring officers to wear cameras and keep them running during most encounters with the public, police chief Joseph Costa acknowledged in an interview.

His confirmation comes after The News obtained the officers’ body camera footage through Texas’ open records law and compared it to a dashcam video released last year. Since that time, the chief had maintained his officers did nothing wrong.

The Dallas County district attorney’s office, meanwhile, will be investigating the family’s allegations of brutality, a spokeswoman told The News. The decision was made last week following a meeting with the family.

The dashcam captured six DeSoto officers responding to the home of Sammie Anderson on Aug. 7 after she asked a friend to call for help in breaking up an argument between her two oldest sons. The caller suggested someone was wielding a weapon, but by the time police arrived the dispute was over. Police tackled Anderson and Tased one of her adult sons, who had already complied with orders to lie on the ground and appeared to be no threat.

Because the dashcam footage was shot from a distance, it was difficult to identify which of the five officers surrounding the man Tased him, and how many times, among other details.

By syncing footage from the separate videos, The News found that three officers’ cameras were dark during the Tasing. The department’s policy says officers should activate their cameras before arriving at scenes.

A fourth cop’s camera caught only blurry images. A fifth’s was too far away. And a sixth officer at the scene didn’t wear one, Costa said.

6 shot inside private bar on South Side, none fatally 3/4/2019

A shooting early Sunday morning at an exclusive night club in the South Shore neighborhood left six people wounded, all of whom are expected to survive.

The shooting unfolded at 3:43 a.m. inside a lounge that was closed to the public in the 2900 block of East 79th Street, according to spokespeople for the Chicago Police Department.

“This appears to be some type of fight that escalated,” CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Sun-Times.

A 24-year-old woman told detectives she heard gunfire erupt before feeling a bullet rip through her leg, police said.

She and a 26-year-old man, who was shot in the buttocks and grazed in the chest, were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.

Later that morning, four people who were also wounded in the bar shooting showed up at hospitals, police said.

Three men — two 25-year-olds and a 31-year-old — arrived at Jackson Park Hospital, police said. All three said they were dancing at the club when shots rang out and people started falling to the floor.

A woman, 29, took herself to Provident Hospital after being shot in the knee, police said.

All six people suffered wounds that weren’t thought to be life-threatening, police said.

On Sunday morning, Guglielmi announced that Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson ordered a wide-ranging investigation into the club, its owners and the people who were there when the shooting happened.

One team of investigators is looking into whether the club’s license holders or attendees have any ties to gangs or organized crime, while another is investigating whether the building is up to code and the club’s licenses are in tact, Guglielmi said.

“Organized crime units & the CPD troubled buildings section will support the effort that will be led by the Commander of CPDs vice unit,” Guglielmi tweeted.

No one has been arrested as Area South detectives investigate the shooting.

Waukegan school district employee charged with sexually abusing 13-year-old girl 3/4/2019

A former employee of a Waukegan school district is facing felony charges after being arrested last month for allegedly sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

On Feb. 19, members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 26-year-old Gabriel Valadez in Waukegan, according to Chicago police. Valadez, of Darien, was later charged with felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under 13 years old, exploitation of a child under 13 and grooming.

Police said Valadez chatted with the young girl on FaceTime, instructing her to undress and perform sexual acts while he masturbated. Additionally, Valadez received nude photographs that showed the girl performing sex acts, police said.

When they met up in person, Valadez grabbed the girl’s hand and placed it on his crotch, police said.

From August 2017 until Monday, Valadez worked as an administrative assistant for Waukegan Community Unit School District 60, according to district spokesman Nicholas Alajakis. He never worked in the district’s schools and had no contact with children, Alajakis said.

Valadez is being held without bail at Cook County Jail, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date was scheduled for March 12.

Black Woman-Owned Company Launches New Line of Dolls With Trendy Fashions 3/3/2019

Philadelphia, PA — A line of fashion dolls arrives on the scene, stunning, curvaceous, and impeccably dressed. What are they called? Beautiful Blessings. Since 2016, a growing number of girls, young women, and doll collectors are embracing these exquisite dolls with realistic proportions, designed and produced by Raveen James. The Beautiful Blessings Doll Company has now launched the doll’s full wardrobe, a collection of couture ensembles, elegant and trendy fashions and accessories.

I created the Beautiful Blessings Doll Collection to build self-esteem and confidence,” says Raveen. ”I wanted girls and women to own dolls that help them realize that they are beautiful inside and out.”

Dolls allow young girls to imagine themselves and the future they envision. From early childhood up until puberty and sometimes beyond, doll lovers can own upwards of ten fashion dolls. Their form becomes ingrained in children’s imaginations as the ideal body type during the early stages of development, which could easily distort their expectations when dolls have dimensions that are disproportionate and unrealistic.

It has been widely reported that 2/3 of women in the United States wear a size 14 or over. Not only is this populous underrepresented in the fashion and entertainment industries, but the representation of this demographic is scarce in the toy industry, as well. The most popular brand of the 11½-inch fashioned doll in the country is scaled to dimensions that would theoretically be impossible for a human counterpart, potentially contributing to an unhealthy self-image among girls and young women.

Girls and women are Beautiful Blessings that are divine creations. The need for representation, inclusion, and body positivity for fashion dolls has only recently become a point of interest in the toy industry. Meanwhile, Deborah, by being a fuller-figured fashion doll available for purchase online, made her bold debut in 2016.

“I created the Beautiful Blessings Doll Collection because I wanted to help girls love themselves and to reinforce that they are beautiful just as they are. Let’s put an end to young girls body-shaming each other, putting themselves down, or believing that they have to be half-dressed to be considered beautiful,” says Raveen. “These dolls are for them to see for themselves – they are already fully beautiful. And that’s what the Beautiful Blessings Doll is all about – owning who you are.”

The Beautiful Blessings Doll Company has partnered with As Seen On TV Toys. Beautiful Blessings commercials now air in Dallas on Nickelodeon, in Los Angeles on Lifetime Television, and will soon be shown in major cities around the country. Elegant and trendy fashions and accessories are available in a variety of styles and fashion-forward patterns. Each doll arrives with an extraordinary, empowering message. Sorority themed colors – Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, Zeta Phi Beta – are also available.

When asked, what is the appropriate age for this doll, Raveen replies, “Beautiful Blessings are perfect for any age. Because we’re never too old to play with dolls.”

Beautiful Blessings Dolls are available online. To purchase and learn more about the products, visit www.iamabeautifulblessing.com

The brand is also available at select boutique stores including Ms. Denise’s i-CANDY BOUTIQUE in Harker Heights, TX (254) 681-1772, C’est La Vie in Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard, MA (508) 681-6181, and also is looking forward to availability in large chain stores.

White Woman Calls Police On Black Man After His Dog ‘Humps’ Her Dog 3/2/2019

A dispute over one dog humping another prompted a woman to call the police on a black man in Massachusetts, according to dog owner Franklin Baxley.

In an interview with HuffPost on Friday, Baxley said he took his pitbull Dusse and his nephew’s dog to Attleboro Dog Park, where a woman called the police to report him because his dog was humping hers. An officer eventually arrived, but no citation was issued.

Baxley, a former attorney, posted several videos of the incident to Facebook on Thursday, where it has drawn nearly 1 million views. In the videos, the woman says into a cellphone that she is being “verbally assaulted” and later accuses Baxley’s dog of assaulting her dog.

“You’ve heard of Barbecue Becky ― because this is the newest one here,” he says to the camera as the woman appears to be on the phone with police.

While defending his dog’s behavior, Baxley tells the woman, “I’ve seen every single dog hump another dog here.”

“Your dog keeps humping my dog and assaults,” the woman can be heard saying in another video.

“I asked you to leave because your dog was humping my dog. That’s the rules,” she says later after an officer arrives.

A third woman can be seen in the video telling Baxley his dog is behaving “inappropriately.” Baxley also continues filming the woman, who tells him to get away from her.

Meanwhile, the three dogs continue to play with each other with no apparent issues as both owners follow them.

The videos have sparked a furor online. Critics of the woman have nicknamed her Dog Park Diane.

This is the latest case in an ongoing phenomenon of white people calling 911 to report on people of color who are doing ordinary things, including having a picnic, entering their apartments or babysitting.

Baxley said he let his two dogs out of his car to play inside the gated dog park, which at that time had no dogs inside, while he watched from his car. Later, the blond woman entered the park, prompting him to leave his car to be with his dogs. As the dogs greeted the woman’s dog, sniffing each other’s rear ends, Baxley said Dusse humped the woman’s dog, which made the woman “visibly frustrated.”

Baxley said he told his dog to stop and apologized to the woman. Then the woman asked Baxley to leave the park, a request that Baxley declined.

“She immediately says, ‘I’m going to call the police,’” Baxley told HuffPost. “She turned her back to me and picks up the phone and starts calling the police.”

Baxley said he believes the woman called the police because she was uncomfortable that he was black. He continued to film the woman and criticize her for making a big deal out of dogs humping at a dog park.

“If I were white, I don’t think she’d call the police to gain any sort of advantage in this minor dispute about dogs humping at a park,” he told HuffPost.

A law enforcement officer later appeared at the park and told Baxley that he couldn’t leave his vehicle’s engine running, which was a “motor vehicle citation.” The officer also told Baxley that he shouldn’t have stood next to the woman to explain his dog’s behavior because that “could be considered an assault … even if you don’t touch the person.”

The Attleboro Police Department did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.

Baxley said he believed the woman was being racist and accused her of using the police as a “weapon” against him because he is black.

“The way my anxiety is set up, I feel threatened whenever I’m confronted by the police,” Baxley said, referring to a comedian’s joke that he can relate to as a black man.

“I don’t think it’s unreasonable for a black man in America to feel uncomfortable around police officers given the current state of affairs in this country,” he added.

In recent yearsnumerous police shootings of unarmed black men have led to the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement and sparked a number of high-profile protests against police brutality and racial injustice across the country.

Many argue that police still aren’t being held accountable for unnecessary violence and prejudice against black men. Baxley said this could be seen in the way the officer approached him.

“This is the America we live in, and it’s sad,” he told HuffPost. “It’s sad that this woman felt her first response to a conflict with a black man was to call the police when it’s completely minor and there is no crime being committed.”

Neither woman in the video has been identified, though Baxley said the brunette woman may have been a volunteer for the dog park.

Bernie Sanders declines to back reparations 3/2/2019

The early 2020 Democratic primary has been occupied lately by a surprisingly polarizing question: Should the United States offer restitution to the descendants of slaves in the form of reparations? Already, several candidates — notably Sens. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — have said yes.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) isn’t so sure.

“I think what we have got to do is pay attention to distressed communities: black communities, Latino communities, and white communities, and as president, I pledge to do that,” Sanders said when asked about the issue on ABC’s The View on Friday.

The View’s Sunny Hostin went on to press him further and ask if he would back reparations, in the form of money, explicitly.

“I think that right now, our job is to address the crises facing the American people and our communities, and I think there are better ways to do that than just writing out a check,” he said in response.

This isn’t the first time Sanders has shied away from backing reparations. During a CNN town hall earlier this week, Sanders instead noted that he supports legislation from Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) that focuses federal resources on communities that have a high level of poverty.

Several 2020 candidates support reparations, but it’s not immediately clear what that means

For now, the definition of reparations in the 2020 context is murky. At the moment, reparations appear to be any policy a candidate is willing to call reparations. A recent New York Times story by Astead W. Herndon found Warren, Harris, and Booker backed “race-conscious policies” in some form. The Washington Post’s Jeff Stein followed this up by asking candidates directly if they supported “reparations.” Those three followed with yes, though it was unclear what the policy might actually look like.

As the Associated Press’s Errin Haines Whack writes, reparations have been “long defined as some type of direct payment to former slaves and their descendants,” but clearly to candidates that definition has become more amorphous.

Harris, for example, has told the news outlet the Grio that she sees the LIFT Act, a bill she proposed that would offer middle-class families a massive expansion of the earned income tax credit, as legislation that would “uplift 60 percent of black families in poverty.”

“When you look at the reality of who will benefit from certain policies … it will directly benefit black children, black families and black homeowners because the disparities are so significant,” she said.

A Booker representative has suggested that his baby bonds proposal, which would guarantee all newborns savings accounts in an effort to limit the racial wealth gap, could be a “form of reparations.” Warren, too, has highlighted legislation “that would provide help to minorities in making a down payment on a home,” Reuters reports.

Sanders indicated on Friday that he does not back a direct payment to descendants of slaves, but it’s increasingly unclear whether other 2020 candidates’ definition of “reparations” explicitly includes that either.

Somali militants holed up as battle rages in Mogadishu 3/1/2019

Somalia’s security forces are battling gunmen in a building in Mogadishu, hours after a suicide car bomb attack on a busy street left at least 20 people dead, security sources say.

The attack was launched late on Thursday by suspected al-Shabab militants in an area lined with hotels, shops and restaurants.

The gunmen then seized a nearby building and were surrounded.

Exchanges of gunfire continued throughout the night in the capital.

Some 60 people have been injured and seven have died in the attacks on Maka al-Mukarama road, a spokesman for the Aamin Ambulance service told the BBC.

A number of civilians have been rescued from the building, reports say.

There are fears that the death toll will rise further.

“There are still some armed men inside a building,” police officer Ibrahim Mohamed was quoted as saying on Friday morning by the AFP news agency.

The secretary-general of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) Mohamed Moalimuu was inside the Maka al-Mukarama hotel with a colleague when they heard gunshots followed by a blast:

What is the significance of Maka al-Mukarama road?

The Maka al-Mukarama road is the busiest road in Mogadishu. It has been repeatedly targeted by al-Shabab militants despite being one of the most heavily guarded roads in the country.

Hassan Haile, a prominent UK-based Somali political analyst, told the BBC that the Islamist militant group were especially drawn to the road.

“Al-Shabab like attacking Maka al-Mukarama because it is in the heart of Somalia,” he said.

He told the BBC the Islamist militant group use bribes and threats to carry out their attacks:

“They either bribe with money or make it very clear that they know where the soldiers live and who their families are, to reach where they want to reach,” Mr Haile said.

“There is negligence from the government, the soldiers have no money and they don’t get encouragement which makes these kinds of attacks possible.”

The fight against al-Shabab

The Islamist group al-Shabab, which is linked to al-Qaeda, was forced out of Mogadishu in 2011 but continues to mount regular attacks in the city.

The US has sharply increased its air strikes against the group since President Trump took power.

The US State Department says al-Shabab retains control over large parts of the country and has the ability to carry out high-profile attacks using suicide bombers, explosive devices, mortars and small arms.

Valenica Love’s Jobs Are Under Attack After She Bailed Out R. Kelly

Love on the Blu was promptly ripped with negative reviews on Yelp, a social networking site that lets users post reviews and rate businesses. “It sucks,” one commentator wrote about the restaurant. “But what sucks EVEN more is that the owner a WOMAN is SUPPORTING a CHILD MOLESTER. Let this place it’s bad food and morally poor owner go out of business.”

Another said, “It really will be our own. The fact that this BLACK WOMAN could bail out a rapist and an abuser is despicable. You own a children’s day care. You should be ashamed of yourself. He’s spent millions of dollars settling cases out of court. And you still think he’s innocent?! Every day you walk into your daycare I hope you realize you have failed those children”

The Yelp page says at the top, “This business is being monitored by Yelp’s Support team for content related to media reports.”

There were also calls for a boycott:

R. Kelly was bailed out of jail by his “friend,” Valencia Love on Monday. The 47-year-old, who is a corporate officer for a child care center and a manager of a restaurant, both in Chicago, has come under fire after paying the $100,000 bond. There have been calls for a boycott of the restaurant — Love on the Blu — and many were questioning how a woman who works with children could bring herself to bail out an accused pedophile.

In an interview on Tuesday with Chicago reporter Tia Ewing, Love defended herself by claiming she didn’t condone abuse and insisted the Grammy Award-winning singer needed a chance to “prove his innocence.”

“He’s not a monster, he’s not,” she said before adding, “He’s been nothing but a gentleman to me.” She also inferred that Kelly was innocent, saying in part that “There are three sides to every story, his side, there’s [sic] (the alleged victims, and the truth.

There may still be more trouble for Kelly. After his release from jail on Monday, Kelly, 52, drove straight to the flagship McDonald’s in Chicago’s River North, also known as the Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald’s. It was the same location where he allegedly met a teenager who he got pregnant before arranging for an abortion, according to Jim DeRogatis, the Chicago journalist who has been reporting on Kelly’s sex allegations for decades.

Among the conditions of his release from jail, the judge ordered Kelly not to have contact with females under 18. McDonald’s is, of course, in many places a haven for teenagers.

Patrice Jones, one of Kelly’s many accusers, sued the singer in 2002, years after he allegedly picked her up as a teenager at the same Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald’s in 1998. She claimed Kelly got her pregnant when she was underage and that he arranged for her to get an abortion, according to Jim DeRogatis, the Chicago journalist who has been reporting on Kelly’s sex allegations for decades.

Prison time might be sooner than later for Kelly.

Ralph ‘Blackface’ Northam’s Wife Gives Black Children Raw Cotton During Mansion Tour 2/28/2019

Birds of a racist feather flock together.

Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam was in a blackface scandal earlier this month. Now, his wife is in a controversy after giving Black children raw cotton during a mansion tour.

According to ABC News, Virginia first lady Pam Northam “allegedly gave out raw cotton during a tour of the governor’s mansion and asked Black children to imagine being slaves who were forced to pick cotton.”

According to the Washington Post, Leah Dozier Walker, an employee of the state’s Department of Education, wrote a letter to lawmakers on Feb. 25 because her eight-grade daughter attended the tour. The letter read in part, “The Governor and Mrs. Northam have asked the residents of the Commonwealth to forgive them for their racially insensitive past actions. But the actions of Mrs. Northam, just last week, do not lead me to believe that this Governor’s office has taken seriously the harm and hurt they have caused African Americans in Virginia or that they are deserving of our forgiveness.”

Pam Northam appeared to defend herself in a statement by saying, “I have provided the same educational tour to Executive Mansion visitors over the last few months and used a variety of artifacts and agricultural crops with the intention of illustrating a painful period of Virginia history.  I am still committed to chronicling the important history of the Historic Kitchen, and will continue to engage historians and experts on the best way to do so in the future.”

She also said, “I regret that I have upset anyone. I believe it does a disservice to Virginians to omit the stories of the enslaved people who lived and worked there–that’s why I have been engaged in an effort to thoughtfully and honestly share this important story since I arrived in Richmond.”

In case you forgot, after a 1984 photo from Eastern Virginia Medical School went viral, which contained a photograph of two unidentified men, one in blackface and the other in a Ku Klux Klan costume under a page labeled as his, went viral, the Virginia governor Ralph Northam apologized.

However, he later said, according to CNN, that it wasn’t him in the photo, “I believe now and then that I am not either of the people in this photo. This was not me in that picture. That was not Ralph Northam.” He continued, “I intend to continue doing the business of Virginia. I could avoid an honest conversation about harmful actions from my past. I cannot in good conscience choose the path that would be easier for me in an effort to duck my responsibility to reconcile.”

Mother and daughter charged in ‘atrocious’ killing of five family members in Pennsylvania 2/28/2019

No one answered when a social worker knocked on the door.

Not Shana Decree or her three children. Not her sister or her three children.

All was quiet inside unit S-7 at Robert Morris Apartments – because most of the people who lived there were dead.

It’s not clear why the case worker was checking on the apartment in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, near the Delaware River. But when there was no response Monday afternoon, she asked a maintenance worker to unlock the door, according to court documents.

The scene inside was straight from nightmares: Overturned furniture, shattered glass and clutter throughout the home. Two disoriented women. And five bodies, including three children, in a backroom.

The details come from an affidavit for probable cause, which accuses Shana Selena Decree, 45, and her daughter, Dominique Klaran Decree, 19 – the two who were found alive – of killing the other five.

The two women are each facing five counts of criminal homicide and one count of conspiracy to commit criminal homicide.

It was not immediately clear whether who is representing them.

Authorities identified the victims as Shana Decree’s children Naa’Irah Smith, 25, and Damon Decree Jr., 13; Shana Decree’s sister, Jamilla Campbell, 42; and Campbell’s 9-year-old twin daughters, Imani and Erika Allen. Another relative, Campbell’s 17-year-old son, Joshua, has been found unharmed, police said.

Authorities said that there are no other suspects in the case.

“I am sure that you’re going to ask me why this has occurred and what the motivation is, and as confusing as it was night, we are no closer to understanding that in the harsh light of day,” Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub said Tuesday during a news conference. “We will continue to pursue every lead and to work this case to its just conclusion. I expect that will be a long and laborious process, but we will always keep Naa’Irah, Damon, Jamilla, Erika and Imani first and foremost in our minds and our hearts as we work to get justice for them.”

Weintraub told reporters Tuesday that authorities are investigating the brutal massacre to determine how exactly the family members died, when it happened and why they may have been killed.

When asked whether it may have been a murder-suicide pact, the district attorney said it was a “potentiality.”

Police responded to the home about 4 p.m. Monday and found Shana and Dominique Decree “disoriented” in bed. The two were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to court records.

Meanwhile, according to the court records, police uncovered a gruesome scene in a backroom in the apartment – one person’s body was face-up on a bed, with his head toward the end and his right foot through the wall to the next room.

Another was on the bed, and one was sitting up against it. One of the children was on the floor. And one person was buried beneath another body.

During an interview with police, Shana and Dominique Decree denied knowing what had happened, then told police Campbell’s boyfriend and two other men had come into the apartment and killed the victims, according to the court records.

Later, Shana Decree told police the victims, including the three children, wanted to die and had been discussing suicide, according to the court records.

Ultimately, police said, Shana and Dominique Decree told investigators about a complicated plan that allegedly involved some of the victims killing each other – at least one of them being choked to death – and then Shana and Dominique Decree killing the rest of them, according to the court documents.

Authorities said the 17-year-old boy, who has since been found safe, was not at home during the killings.

Shana Decree was arraigned in the early hours of Tuesday morning and her daughter, Dominique, was arraigned in the afternoon. Both women are being held without bail, according to booking records.

“I just feel very confident that we have the two killers locked up that committed these atrocious, atrocious murders,” Weintraub, the district attorney, said.

New York Democrats Want To Decriminalize Sex Work 2/26/2019

NEW YORK ― Sex workers could be released from prison and no longer fear arrest under a new bill announced on Monday by New York state Democrats.

The Democratic and Republican parties have both historically ignored the needs and demands of sex-working people. But first-term state Sens. Julia Salazar (D) and Jessica Ramos (D), who will work with Assemblyman Richard Gottfried (D) on drafting the legislation, are part of a younger group of more progressive Democratic politicians and candidates who have been vocal about sex workers’ rights. And now there’s an actual chance to get their legislation passed.

Salazar was the first person to include sex workers’ rights on her campaign platform and go on to win her election. Sex workers and their allies celebrated the win, and now, just three months after being elected, the 27-year-old democratic socialist is staying true to her word.

“The climate of fear of intimidation caused by criminalizing sex work makes it very difficult for sex workers to seek any kind of redress for labor issues or to report the various kinds of abuse many endure in silence,” Salazar said at a press conference Monday. “Sex work is work, and we need to start treating it as

Ramos, who chairs the state Senate’s Committee on Labor, represents New York’s District 13. It includes the neighborhood of Jackson Heights, which has the largest population of transgender people in the country.

“I’ve seen sex workers on Roosevelt Avenue nearly my entire life,” she said. “Decriminalizing sex work will protect [them] from exploitation, allow them to seek protection from trafficking, and will help victims of sex trafficking seek justice.”

New Yorkers must “recognize the most marginalized of our neighbors.”

The legislation already has some co-sponsors. Assemblymembers Dan Quart (D) and Catalina Cruz (D) spoke at the press conference to show their support. After Democrats took control of all three branches of the state government in the midterm elections in November, the topic of sex workers’ rights shifted from fringe issue to the mainstream.

“This is a taboo topic,” Quart said on Monday. “But it can’t be taboo anymore.”

Decriminalization vs. Legalization

The state legislators shared the mic with members of Decrim NY, a coalition of LGTBQ, immigrant rights, harm reduction and criminal justice reform groups. Members of Decrim NY actively called for decriminalizing sex work rather than legalizing it. Sex worker activists have long spoken out in support of decriminalization rather than legalization, saying that legalization does not actually protect workers.

Decriminalization removes criminal penalties for the trading of sex between adults and consenting adult sex workers, Nina Luo, steering committee member Decrim NY, told HuffPost on Monday. Decrim NY will work with Salazar, Ramos and Gottfried on the new legislation.

“The challenge with legalization is that it oftentimes restricts the trade in such a way that it basically still criminalizes workers,” she said.

She pointed to Nevada as an example, where prostitution is legal but regulated in such a way that brothel owners and managers are more empowered than workers. With decriminalization, sex work is regulated the same as any other kind of work ― thus giving sex workers more power to report labor violations such as assault and theft by their clients or law enforcement, she said.

Acting Principal Accused of Attacking 11-Year Old Student, Ripping Her Braids Out 2/26/2019

Madison, WI — Rob Mueller-Owens, a positive behavior support coach at a middle school in Wisconsin who was also the acting principal, allegedly attacked and pulled out several braids from an 11-year old African American student after a classroom dispute. The girl’s mother, Mikiea Price, said her daughter called her on February 13 to tell her about the incident. The girl reportedly told her she and her classmate sprayed perfume on themselves in the bathroom before returning to class. The smell apparently activated their teacher’s allergies so she asked who sprayed perfume but no one admitted.

The teacher then asked Mueller-Owens to come in to handle the situation. When the girl eventually admitted she sprayed perfume, she was asked to leave the classroom.

However, as she was walking out of the classroom, Mueller-Owens allegedly began pushing her out, causing her to hit a row of lockers. He also stayed on top of her for about 15 seconds after losing his balance.

The incident was caught on a surveillance video described by Price as a “very disturbing sight to see.” But the video won’t be publicly released until an investigation is completed.

Price added that her daughter has been traumatized and afraid to return to school since the incident.

“Just the whole experience is just traumatic and devastating and just confusing,” Price told the WISC-TV. “I’m just disgusted at this whole incident. You know, I send my kid to school to learn, and that’s a place where mothers send their kids to be comfortable in. I just feel violated in so many ways that this even happened to her.”

Though Price didn’t know exactly how her daughter’s braids were pulled out, she said she was holding three braids and there were bald spots in her scalp when she picked her up at school.

Price said she is planning to take legal actions and sue the Madison Metropolitan School District. She said the school failed to inform her about the incident and also didn’t call any doctor or nurse to examine her daughter.

Meanwhile, the school district said in a written statement that they “take any situation of this nature very seriously.”

Moreover, Mueller-Owens, who once paid a visit to the White House in 2015 for his work with restorative justice, has been placed on leave and banned to return to Whitehorse Middle School, where Price’s daughter goes to school, pending the result of the investigation.

Burberry Apologizes for Designing a Hoodie With a Noose Around the Neck 2/25/2019

Nationwide — Fashion brand Burberry has apologized for designing a hoodie with a noose around the neck which was showcased during its London Fashion Week show. The design, which received harsh criticism online even from one of the brand’s own models, has already been pulled out from the collection, the fashion house said.“We are deeply sorry for the distress caused by one of the products that featured in our A/W 2019 runway collection,” Burberry CEO Marco Gobbetti said in a statement provided to CNN.

“Though [the] design was inspired by the marine theme that ran throughout the collection, it was insensitive and we made a mistake,” he continued.

Liz Kennedy, the model who wore the hoodie on the show, was the first to express criticism about the noose. She said she tried to object on having the noose placed on her neck, but her concerns were just dismissed.“Suicide is not fashion,” Kennedy wrote on her Instagram post. “It is beyond me how you could let a look resembling a noose hanging from a neck out on the runway.”

Kennedy also noted the “horrifying history of lynching” associated with the noose. However, she claimed that some of the staff were even joking about the design before the show while the noose was hanging from the ceiling.

“I had a brief conversation with someone but all that it entailed was ‘it’s fashion. Nobody cares about what’s going on in your personal life so just keep it to yourself,’” she said.

The UK’s Mental Health Foundation also condemned the design and cited the need for fashion houses to be more careful and diverse in their creative process.

“It is disappointing to see this representation in our day and age considering how much ground we have covered in mental health in recent years,” said Antonis Kousoulis, associate director of research at the charity. “Highly influential global brands like Burberry certainly have a role to play in giving a voice to diverse views, respecting people with lived experience, and being role models.”

Meanwhile, Riccardo Tisci, Burberry’s chief creative officer and the designer of the A/W 2019 “Tempest” collection, apologized over the controversial design as well, saying he now realized it was “insensitive.”

“It was never my intention to upset anyone. It does not reflect my values nor Burberry’s and we have removed it from the collection. I will make sure that this does not happen again,” he added.

There Are 64,000 Missing Black Women and Girls in the United States and No One Seems to Care 2/25/2019

Nationwide — Over the years, a disturbingly disproportionate number of Black women and girls across the United States have gone missing. What’s even more alarming is that the media coverage and legislation that missing Black girls are getting seems to be lacking compared to missing white girls.A 2010 study about the media coverage of missing children in the United States discovered that only 20 percent of reported stories focused on missing Black children despite it corresponding to 33 percent of the overall missing children cases. Conclusively, the report said that missing Black youth — especially Black girls — are underreported in the news and it seems that many people don’t even care.

According to reports, when Black girls go missing, it’s often unclear whether they have run away from home, were inflicted violence, abducted, sent into the sex industry, among others. Basically, their safety and assurance to be brought back home was commonly ignored and not an utmost concern.

As of 2014, about 64,000 Black women and girls were missing across the U.S. However, most of those do not receive enough media attention and public support to be found.

In efforts to address the problem of missing Black children nationwide,  Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Robin Kelly, and Yvette D. Clarke initiated the Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls in 2016. Through the caucus, they hope to create public policies that “eliminate significant barriers and disparities experienced by black women.”

Members of the caucus believe that more federal assistance and collaboration is needed to further eliminate the problem.

“I feel like knocking on every attic, every garage to see where those girls are,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said. “Let’s be an example to the world that we can’t rest until these girls are found.”

Meanwhile, the Black community and organizations utilize social media networks to bring back missing Black girls. Using the hashtag #BlackGirlsMissing, many young women have returned home safely despite the usually limited support from police and minimal reporting from media.

Trump Just Removed White Supremacist Groups From Terror Watch Program 2/24/2019

In his most shocking move since becoming president two weeks ago, Donald Trump’s regime is making changes to America’s domestic terrorism programs. He’s officially legalizing religious profiling of Muslims and is removing dangerous white supremacist extremist groups from the watch lists; although they are responsible for most of the domestic terrorism that occurs in America.

The program, “Countering Violent Extremism,” or CVE, would be changed to “Countering Islamic Extremism” or “Countering Radical Islamic Extremism,” the sources said, and would no longer target groups such as white supremacists who have also carried out bombings and shootings in the United States.

Authorities have blamed radical and violent ideologies as the reason a white supremacist shot nine Black people inside a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina, and Islamist militants for shootings and bombings in California, Florida, and New York. A reporter tweeted that getting rid of the tracking of America’s homegrown extremists such as the KKK, “patriot” groups, and neo-Nazi groups, will hamper all that the CVE program does to track known hate groups and criminal enterprises.

The Republican Party has made it a point to instill Islamophobia into public policy and now terrorism will only be referred to as “radical Islam.” This policy is a strategy by the Trump administration to give false justification for his Muslim ban which affects one out of every eight Muslims worldwide from seven countries. The removal of white supremacists and violent extremist groups from federal tracking programs appears to be a direct move by Trump’s advisor, Steve Bannon to foster racial hatred and religious discrimination. Trump’s administration has already removed the CVE’s 5-point counterterrorism strategy page from the State Department’s website.READ  Video: Black Musician Explains How and Why He Became Friends With White Supremacists

Reuters’ news agency has said Trump’s attempt to brand terror as something solely carried out by Islamic groups is impractical and extremely unproductive. The news agency noted:

Hoda Hawa, director of policy for the Muslim Public Affairs Council, said she was told last week by people within DHS that there was a push to refocus the CVE effort from tackling all violent ideology to only Islamist extremism. “That is concerning for us because they are targeting a faith group and casting it under a net of suspicion,” she said.

While some Republicans in Congress have pressed the use of the term “radical Islam” as a strategy to help focus deterrence efforts; others have said it’s a terrible way to ostracize over three million people in America that practice Islam in a peaceful manner.

Those who oppose the Trump proposal of only singling out Muslims as possible terrorist, feel his program will make it that much more difficult for Muslims to trust his administration. Especially considering the fact he just signed an executive order banning Muslims from seven predominantly Muslim nations from entering America only one week after being in office.

For several years now, American law enforcement agencies have said the greatest risk of domestic terrorism comes from white supremacists or terrorists like the KKK, neo-Nazis, and those who share their viewpoint. Which is in stark contrast to groups like al-Qaeda, who are more focused on exploiting the struggle for control in the Middle East.

It makes obvious sense that America needs to be vigilant against ISIS-inspired attacks but the government also has to pay attention to white supremacist hate groups as well.

Officer Becomes Hero to Neighborhood Kids After Sitting Down to Play With Girls Who ‘Were Afraid of Cops’ 2/24/2019

Corporal C.B. Fleming may not run around the city wearing a cape and mask, but the neighborhood kids still call him Batman.

The 42-year-old police officer is something of a local celebrity in South Hill, Virginia. He was given the affectionate nickname after he spent an afternoon ensuring that a group of children felt safe following a gas leak.

Fleming was just one of the emergency crew members who arrived at Iesha Roper-Boswell’s home in response to the dispatch call last week. Once the house was deemed safe, he started chatting with Roper-Boswell.

As they talked, the 28-year-old mother mentioned to Fleming that her daughter, niece, and fellow neighborhood kids were afraid of cops.

She was then stunned when – shortly after their conversation – she saw Fleming lying in the grass so he could play with the children. Not only that, the kids were happy to have another playmate, regardless of his uniform.

Roper-Boswell pulled out her phone and captured a quick video of the heartwarming moment. Since uploading it to Facebook, it has been viewed thousands of times.

In addition to being a father of four biological and two adopted children, Fleming has been working at the South Hill Police Department in Virginia for the last 15 years, and he says that he has always strived to be a positive part of his community.

“It’s something I’ve always tried to do,” Fleming told WTVR of his interaction with the children. “When I got into this job, I knew there was something different, other than just writing tickets and being the bad person all the time. I figured if I could be that bright spot in someone’s day then that’s all that mattered.”

And based on his latest interactions with the kids, it seems that he has succeeded

“He’s awesome. That’s the only word you can really use to describe C.B.,” Roper-Boswell told the news outlet. “It’s just amazing, the bond he has with the children.

“For him to make my child feel like she’s safe, she doesn’t even have to call 911, she just has to call C.B. if she’s in trouble. I’m glad he made this part of his job. He’s changed my daughter and niece’s lives.”

4 men charged with tying up, robbing Lombard family at gunpoint 2/23/2019

Bail was set at $2 million Saturday for four men accused of invading the home of family in Lombard, trying them up, robbing them and then leading cops on a high-speed chase in the western suburb.

Mashawn Barnes, 27; Kevin Jones, 31; and Dion Young, 20, all of Chicago; and Calvert Williams, 29, of Matteson, are each charged with a felony count of armed robbery in connection to a home invasion at an apartment on Foxworth Boulevard, the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office said in a statement.

If convicted, they could each face between 21 and 45 years in prison each, prosecutors said.

On Friday, a woman and her daughter entered their home at 3:35 p.m. as two of the men, armed and wearing masks, approached and entered the building before the door closed, prosecutors said.

Once inside, the men each pointed a gun at their heads and ordered them into their home, the state’s attorney’s office said. Inside the apartment, the men tied up the woman and someone else who had been sleeping there. The men stole cash, a handgun and other items before fleeing in a vehicle waiting in a parking lot.

As the men left, the woman freed herself and called police with details about the fleeing vehicle, prosecutors said. Lombard officers found a vehicle matching the description and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped off at 75 mph down Roosevelt Road, prosecutors said.

Williams, Jones and Barnes are also charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, prosecutors said. Young was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, and Barnes was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding.

The vehicle crashed twice at North and Villa avenues in Villa Park, and all four men exited the vehicle, prosecutors said. Barnes was arrested near the vehicle, and the three others were arrested in a wooded area nearby.

“The terror allegedly caused by these men — forcing their way at gunpoint into an innocent woman’s apartment, tying up their victims and stealing money, other items of value and a gun before fleeing — is almost unimaginable,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the statement.

Man shot during argument in Englewood 2/23/2019

A man was shot and wounded during an argument Saturday afternoon in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

About 3:30 p.m., the 46-year-old began verbally arguing with a male inside a business in the 5600 block of South Racine Avenue, Chicago police said.

The argument moved outside to a sidewalk, where the male pulled out a handgun and fired shots, police said. The man was struck in his groin, leg and foot.

He was treated for the gunshots at the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. Area Central detectives are investigating.

1 killed, 1 wounded in Gage Park shooting 2/23/2019

A man was killed and another wounded Friday as shooting erupted into a group of people arguing on a street in Gage Park on the Southwest Side.

The group of people began arguing about noon in the 5500 block of South Spaulding Avenue when shots rang out, Chicago police said.

A 20-year-old man was struck in the arm and Antoine Grant, 34, was shot multiple times, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. The men were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where Grant died within the hour.

An autopsy released Saturday found Grant died from multiple gunshot wounds. He lived in the Austin neighborhood, the medical examiner’s office said.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a back SUV flee from the scene, police said.

Area Central detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. No one is in custody, police said Saturday.

Queen Latifah To Create Affordable Housing Complex In Newark 2/23/2019

Queen Latifah has broken barriers in both the music and entertainment industries and now she plans on doing the same in real estate. In an effort to level the playing field when it comes to housing equity in her hometown of Newark, the Star actress is creating an affordable housing complex in the city, NJ.comreported.

The project—which is reportedly going to cost $14 million—will be a community of multi-family townhouses, the news outlet writes. The homes—which will be located on Springfield Ave. and South 17th Street—will include 20 three-family townhomes and an additional mix-use building that will have 16 units. The mix-use building will feature a fitness center and commercial space that will be used by nonprofit organizations. 60 of the units will be market rate starting with a price of $1,800 and 16 of the units will be affordable and based on an individual’s income.

The project is being led by BlueSugar Corporation—where Latifah serves as co-president—and GonSosa Development. BlueSugar Corporation has been on a mission to revitalize struggling neighborhoods across the country and GonSosa Development has reconstructed and developed over 1,000 units.

There is a need for affordable housing in Newark and those who are involved in the project are excited about making change. “They understand how difficult it is to make ends meet for many residents and want to be part of the solution. They remain dedicated to making life better in communities like Newark,” said Cristina Pinzon who serves as a spokeswoman for the developers. Like other cities across the country, Newark is experiencing an affordability crisis where many longtime residents are at risk of being displaced due to gentrification.

News about Queen Latifah’s plans comes nearly a month after NFL star Marshawn Lynch shared that he was going to purchase real estate in his hometown of Oakland so that people who have lived in the community for decades wouldn’t be pushed out.

The Story of the First Black Woman to Hold Two Patents for A Natural Hair Accessory is Told in Black History Month Documentary 2/23/2019

Marietta, GA — As we celebrate Black History Month, inventor of the PuffCuff® Hair Clamp and the first black woman to hold two natural hair accessory patents, Ceata Lash, stands out as a living legend who is blazing a new path in the hair industry. Her rise to success is chronicled in her newly released mini-documentary, which is accessible at www.ThePuffCuff.com. This documentary offers viewers a raw, honest story of how Ceata Lash turned her idea born out of personal frustration into a global empire for textured and curly hair accessories.About 12 years ago Ceata decided to stop chemically straightening her hair. “I actually had no idea what the hair growing out of my scalp would look like, so I didn’t know how to take care of it… Ever since the days of Madam CJ Walker, all we’ve ever known was straight hair,” Ceata states in the opening of the mini-documentary. After much research on natural hair styling, she found that most of the current hair accessories were designed with a bias towards straight hair. Ceata felt it wasn’t fair and realized she was facing a problem bigger than just her. She, along with many others with textured hair, needed a product to style thick, natural hair in an afro puff without the breakage or pain usually associated with using rubber or elastic bands that tug and rip the hair. “All I needed was something to hold my hair, not cinch it down,” she explains in the mini-documentary.

The mini-documentary continues where Ceata’s recounts her experience working as a senior graphic designer at a community college where she was the only black person in the department. During this time, she began experimenting with ways to style her natural hair, so that she would feel comfortable in a predominantly white environment. She decided to keep her hairstyling simple with a single afro puff but in order to achieve this style, Ceata had to use boot length shoestrings to gather her thick mane into a puff and keep it in place. However, she found that the tension and tightness created unbearable headaches throughout the day. She was sure others were suffering through the same issue. It was this very reason that inspired her to create a solution that ultimately became known as the PuffCuff– the only clamp for thick, curly hair on the market. The PuffCuff launched in 2013, and in 2017 Ceata became the first black woman to hold two natural hair accessory patents.

Over the years, Ceata and her innovative PuffCuff have been featured in Allure, Kontrol Magazine, Marie Claire, Black Enterprise, and more media outlets. In 2018, the leadership team of beauty retail pioneer, Sally Beauty, chose to grant Ceata the President’s Innovation Award for her invention of the ingenious PuffCuff as a part of Sally Beauty’s Cultivate Program. This program is aligned with Sally Beauty’s new business accelerator initiatives to help women beauty entrepreneurs grow their businesses. As a result of having received this coveted recognition, PuffCuff was granted fast track distribution into all 3,000 Sally Beauty stores and website by the end of 2019.

Toward the end of the mini-documentary, Ceata ends offering some words of encouragement, “Don’t give up. Keep running when you’re tired, and you don’t stop until the Lord tells you too. And he hasn’t told us to.”

A proven success story, Ceata’s legacy will serve to help pave the way for ushering in future generations of black inventors, especially those seeking to contribute to breakthroughs within the beauty industry. As for Ceata, she’ll remain on the front lines toward innovating solutions to end common beauty and grooming problems, all while further solidifying her spot as a game-changer in black history.

Judge Denies $38 Million Verdict For the Family of a Black Woman Killed by Police 2/23/2019

Baltimore, MD — The family of Korryn Gaines, who was shot and killed by a police officer three years ago, is disappointed after a Baltimore County judge has overturned the decision of a jury that awarded them over $38 million in damages for her wrongful death. In 2016, local police officers went to Gaines’ apartment to serve an arrest warrant for failing to appear in court for two different charges. Gaines, who was found inside the apartment with her boyfriend and her two children, allegedly pointed a gun at the officers.

After a 6-hour standoff, police officers fired shots when she allegedly threatened to kill them, although their neighbors told different stories. Gaines was fatally shot and her now-6-year-old son, Kodi, was injured.

Her family filed a lawsuit against Baltimore County Police and Cpl. Royce Ruby, the officer who fatally shot her, claiming that they used excessive force. The jury sided with the family and last year, they were awarded $38 million in damages, which included $33 million to her son, Kodi, $4.5 million to her daughter, Karsyn, and $9,000 to her parents and estate.

However, Judge Mickey J. Norman recently dismissed the claims and denied the family of the award. Norman stated in his ruling that Ruby’s actions were “objectively reasonable” and did not violate her rights against unlawful seizure. He noted the “qualified immunity” that protect law enforcement and government officials from civil liability when doing their job.

Gaines’ family said that they are planning to appeal the judge’s ruling.

“It’s devastating to a certain extent, but they’re a very faithful family,” J. Wyndal Gordon, the family’s attorney, told The Baltimore Sun. “It’s not over.”

12 and 14-Year-Old Boys Arrested For Allegedly Gang Raping a 19-Year Old Girl 2/23/2019

Baltimore, MD — Three 14-year-old teens and a 12-year-old boy are now facing charges in connection with their alleged gang rape of a 19-year old woman whom they abducted after she stepped out the bus in Baltimore.Wilmer Ramos, Philip Worrell, and Nile Campbell, who were all 14-years old, were charged as adults with first- and second-degree rape after the sexual assault that happened on the night of February 6.

A 12-year-old boy who was with them at the scene during the sexual assault was also charged but as a juvenile. He faces charges of first-degree rape, third- and fourth-degree sex offense, conspiracy kidnapping, conspiracy robbery, perverted practice, and illegally possessing a handgun.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman whose name wasn’t released, had reportedly just got off a bus and was walking back to her house in Baltimore when the teens and the boy approached her and threatened her with a handgun. She was forced to a backyard full of rubbish, beer bottles, and old mattresses where she was allegedly raped at gunpoint.

Police said that as the three teens were sexually assaulting the woman, neighbors heard noises and went out of their house to identify where it is coming from.

The four attackers were interrupted and they fled from the scene. Two of them were caught later on when school police recognized them. School police cooperated with sex offense detectives and the two other suspects were captured after they were identified from the photos.

Unapologetic Alabama Editor Who Urged KKK To ‘Ride Again’ Finally Resigns 2/23/2019

The still-not-sorry editor and publisher of an Alabama county newspaper has resigned and turned over control of his publication to a black woman following outrage over his editorial calling for the “Ku Klux Klan to night ride again.”

Goodloe Sutton told the Montgomery Advertiser on Friday that the Democrat-Reporter now has a new “publisher, owner and editor.” He refused to explain whether he had sold the publication in Linden, in western Alabama, or simply turned over control, calling the reporter “dumb” for asking, according to the Advertiser.

He told the Auburn Plainsman on Friday: “I can drink beer and chase women now. They can’t run too fast, or I can’t catch them.”

A news release from the Democrat-Reporter announced that local woman Elecia Dexter became publisher and editor on Thursday. Dexter is African-American and has worked at the newspaper for several years, according to the Plainsman. Dexter told The Associated Press that, although she will run the 3,000-circulation newspaper, Sutton will continue to own it.

The statement said Dexter would continue the newspaper’s 140-year-old tradition of providing “quality news” as well as “moving the paper into a new direction.”

Sutton, 80, wrote in his editorial last week that it was time for “the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again” as he complained about Washington “Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats plotting to raise taxes in Alabama.” The white supremacist Klan carried out murderous lynchings and other attacks on black people and their supporters during their night rides.

He later told the Advertiser, “If we could get the Klan to go up there and clean out D.C., we’d all been better off.” Asked to explain what he meant, he responded: “We’ll get the hemp ropes out and loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them.”

He also insisted the Klan “didn’t kill but a few people” and “wasn’t violent until they needed to be.”

The community had complained for years about the racist perspective of the editorial page, the Advertiser reported.

The statement from the Democrat-Reporter said that the “Sutton family devoted this newspaper to integrity and excellence in journalism which has been led over the past 50-plus years by Goodloe Sutton and his [late] wife, Jean.”

It added that “Ms. Dexter is coming in at a pivotal time for the newspaper and you may have full confidence in her ability to handle these challenging times.”

Sutton had been inducted into the University of Southern Mississippi’s Mass Communications and Journalism Hall of Fame in 2007, along with his wife, who died in 2003. The university released a statement earlier this week condemning Sutton and announcing his removal from the hall of fame.

Here’s the Democrat-Reporter’s full statement on Sutton stepping down:

The Democrat-Reporter is pleased to announce effective February 21, 2019, Elecia R. Dexter will be the Publisher and Editor of the newspaper going forward. The Democrat-Reporter has provided the community of West Alabama with quality news for over 140 years and you may have full confidence that Ms. Dexter will continue in this tradition as well as moving the paper into a new direction. We are pleased to make this announcement as her family has strong roots and a rich history in Marengo County where her dad, John Dexter Jr. was born.

She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with her Bachelors in Speech Communication. She continued her academic pursuit by getting her Masters in Human Services from Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies and her Masters in Counseling from Argosy University. Over the past 10 years, she has been a strategic leader with expertise in human resources, operations and change management.

The Sutton family devoted this newspaper to integrity and excellence in Journalism which has been led over the past 50 plus years by Goodloe Sutton and his wife Jean.

Ms. Dexter is coming in at a pivotal time for the newspaper and you may have full confidence in her ability to handle these challenging times.

Family Sues Mississippi Jail That Has A Record Of Suspicious Black Inmate Death 2/23/2019

Harvey Hill was one of three inmates who died at the jail in 2018 under suspicious circumstances.

AMississippi jail finds itself, again, in the spotlight over the death of a Black inmate under suspicious circumstances.

Attorneys representing the family of Harvey Hill, who died nine months ago at the Madison County jail, announced on Tuesday that they filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the sheriff and other officials, the Clarion-Ledger reported.

Hill was arrested for trespassing on May 6 and died in custody one day later.

Part of the family’s frustration is that after nine months they still have no official answers about the exact cause of Hill’s death. They don’t believe that Hill, 36, died from possible cardiac arrest, as they were told. The family believes he died after jail guards “brutally” beat him.

“That is totally unacceptable,” attorney Carlos Moore said, noting that the family still has not received an official autopsy report. “Had the results been in the county’s favor, they would have released them by now.”

Hill’s death was one of three such deaths at the jail in 2018, in which families suspect foul play. Larry Thompson, 51, died three days after his release from the jail in November. And in December, Lanekia Michelle Brown, 37, was four weeks pregnant when she was reportedly found dead in her jail cell.

The lawsuit accuses the jail guards of beating and pepper-spraying Hill while he was handcuffed because he failed to show proper respect to one of the guards. They allegedly returned Hill without medical care to his cell, where he was found dead.

In Brown’s case, she was reportedly discovered dead in her cell when a nurse went to check on her after she had complained about having stomach pains, according to the official account. Brown’s mother said she was not allowed to see her daughter’s remains in the days after her death. She demanded answers but received no explanation about how she died.

Moore, who is also representing Brown’s family, said at a news conference in January that he was looking into whether Brown was given proper medical care. He suspected that jail officials discriminated against her.

Thompson’s family said he was healthy when he walked into the jail but was nearly unconscious and unable to walk when he was released. While incarcerated, Thompson called home and said he had been beaten, his son recalled. The family said witnesses at the prison also told them that jail officials had assaulted Thompson. They too are demanding answers.

INCEDENT SPARK BLACK LIVE MATTER MOVEMENT IN BRAZIL

The killing of a Black teenager in Brazil, which has a long history of police violence against Afro-Brazilians, sparked a movement to protect Black lives. This comes against the backdrop of a new law-and-order Brazilian president coming to power with an anti-Black agenda.

Killing Of Black Teen In Brazil Ignites BLM Movement To End Police Brutality 2/21/2019

Many are comparing Pedro Gonzaga in Brazil to Eric Garner.

The killing of a Black teenager in Brazil, which has a long history of police violence against Afro-Brazilians, sparked a movement to protect Black lives. This comes against the backdrop of a new law-and-order Brazilian president coming to power with an anti-Black agenda.

Demonstrators rallied in five major cities in Brazil after the death on Feb. 14 of 19-year-old Pedro Gonzaga whom a supermarket security guard choked—fueling a Black Lives Matter movement, the Guardian reported.

It’s unclear exactly what led to the confrontation. The security guard reportedly used a sleeper hold on Gonzaga, who died of a heart attack at a hospital. A video showed at least one bystander pleading with the security guard to stop. “He is suffocating him,” a woman is heard saying on a video of the incident. Gonzaga was taken unconscious to the hospital.

Parallels to Eric Garner, the unarmed African-American man who died after a New York City cop used a chokehold to arrest him, were widely noted by the demonstrators.

“There has never been a Black Lives Matter [movement] in Brazil to compare to the United States, but this year I think it will happen more often because the black community is more and more united,” Rene Silva, a protest organizer in Rio, said.

In July 2018, Amnesty International, a global human rights organization, noted that police killings of Black youths in Brazil continue 25 years after the infamous Candelária massacre, in which eight young boys were killed by off-duty police officers in Rio de Janeiro. The incident sparked international outrage, yet little has changed more than two decades later.

“The struggle to protect Black Brazilian youths from police violence and deliver justice for the victims of the past remains as vital and relevant as ever,” Amnesty International said.

Unfortunately, things seem unlikely to change any time soon. In January, far-right politician Jair Bolsonaro, who was once on trial for racism, was sworn in as Brazil’s president. He has a long history of making hateful comments about women, the LGBT community and Afro-Brazilians.

In April 2018, Brazil’s attorney general charged him with inciting hatred and discrimination. In one instance, Bolsonaro insulted Black descendants of rebel African slaves called quilombolas and expressed regret about their legal protections. However, a court dismissed the lawsuit during his presidential campaign in September.

Before taking office, Bolsonaro signaled one of his policy targets: Brazil’s affirmative action program, according to Bloomberg News.

Jussie Smollett is ARRESTED after he ‘faked a racist attack and then lied to police about it’ 2/21/2019

Empire actor Jussie Smollett has been arrested in Chicago after he allegedly faked a racist attack and then lied to police about it.

Smollett has already vowed to fight charges of filing a fake police report, insisting the attack was genuine.

The 36-year-old claimed that two MAGA hat-wearing men attacked him as he walked home on January 29 while shouting racist and homophobic language.

He said the pair hit him, threw bleach in his face and placed a noose around his neck before running away.

Police have since arrested Nigerian brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo for committing the crime, but believe they were paid to do so by Smollett in a bizarre bid to boost his fame.

Officers are also thought to be investigating whether a letter which Smollett received a week before the attack was also faked.

The note had MAGA written on the front and contained cut-out magazine words reading ‘you will die black f*g’ along with a hand-drawn image of a man with a gun to his head.

It also contained a white powder that turned out to be crushed aspirin.

Police sources believe Smollett staged the racist attack when the letter failed to garner enough attention.

Trump Advocates Death Penalty For Drugs Dealers 2/21/2019

Drug dealers kill people, destroy families and might deserve the death penalty or life in prison for their crimes, President Trump says.

Trump, speaking at a rally Saturday in Pennsylvania for congressional candidate Rick Saccone, said he got the idea from the leaders of China and Singapore. The U.S. criminal justice system, Trump said, is too soft on drugs.

“You kill 5,000 people with drugs because you’re smuggling them in and you are making a lot of money and people are dying. And they don’t even put you in jail,” Trump said. “That’s why we have a problem, folks. I don’t think we should play games.”

Trump said he recently asked the president of Singapore if that country has a drug problem.

“He said ‘We have a zero tolerance policy. That means if we catch a drug dealer, death penalty,'” Trump said.

Trump said he wasn’t sure whether the nation would be accepting of such a harsh penalty. But he said drug dealers destroy families.

“We can’t just keep setting up blue ribbon committees” that do nothing but “talk, talk, talk,” Trump said.

Trump has floated the idea before. Less than two weeks ago, Trump suggested “very strong” penalties to help address the nation’s growing problem with opioid addiction.

“Some countries have a very, very tough penalty — the ultimate penalty,” Trump said. “And, by the way, they have much less of a drug problem than we do.”

Last May, Trump congratulated Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte for a “great job” in his crackdown on drugs. Duterte has boasted about personally shooting and killing at least three crime suspects. Human rights groups and the United Nations have condemned Duterte’s vigilante-style campaign that has left thousands of suspected drug dealers and users dead.

Trump acknowledged Saturday that his idea might have dissenters.

“Probably you’ll have some people who say ‘Oh, that’s not nice,” Trump said. “But we have to do something.”

The Girls Who Fled To Syria: Groomed By The Islamic State 2/20/2019

In February 2015, three teenage schoolgirls left the comfort of their homes in East London and traveled to Syria to join the self-styled Islamic State (IS). Around 60 women and girls are thought to have made the same journey from Britain. The story of their disappearance dominated the UK press for weeks and the blame game inevitably began to hunt out whose fault it was. When the families of Amira Abase, Shamima Begum, and Kadiza Sultana found out that the police had been interviewing the trio about another girl from their school who had already joined IS, the case was picked up for investigation by the government. But soon certain sections of the press would turn on the families themselves. VICE News gained intimate access to the father of one girl, Amira, and joined him as he dealt with the press and parliament to find out what it’s like for those left behind by the tragic choices of their loved ones.

Cop’s Relationship With Racist Group Fuels Concerns About White Supremacists In Police Departments 2/20/2019

The apparently cozy relationship between an Oregon police lieutenant and the leader of a right-wing group has renewed unanswered questions about the infiltration of police departments by white supremacists.

On Tuesday, the Portland Police Commanding Officers Association filed a grievance against city officials for violating a contract provision that bars them from publicly reprimanding police supervisors, OregonLive.com reported.

Mayor Ted Wheeler called for an investigation last week into hundreds of text messages exchanged between Portland Police Lt. Jeffrey Niiya and Joey Gibson, the leader of the far-right group Patriot Prayer, which has organized violent demonstrations in the city.

Wheeler said he was disturbed by what he learned after reading an expose published by Willamette Week on Feb. 14.  “Community members have long expressed concerns about police bias during demonstrations. Incidents like this contribute to the distrust that so many people have about the Portland Police Bureau,” he said in a statement.

Historically, police departments were an instrument to enforce segregation and other racist policies. It’s no wonder that the FBI has warned about ongoing relationships between white supremacists and police departments

In October 2006, the FBI published a report titled “White Supremacist Infiltration of Law Enforcement,” in which the agency discussed the threat of white supremacist groups permeating police departments to hamper investigations and to recruit like-minded officers. It’s unclear whether police officials ever heeded the warning, PBS.org said a decade after the report was issued.

There is a lot of history at the root of the alliance between white supremacy and law enforcement. As part of its program to address racially biased law enforcement, the District of Columbia’s police department has sent officers to the African American History Museum to learn about that history.

“People who were supposed to serve and protect had played in the enforcement of discriminatory, racist and unjust policies and laws,” Police Chief Peter Newsham said standing outside the African American History Museum when the program was announced in 2018. “The museum includes very honest and poignant stories of the role that policing played in some of the historical injustices in our country.”

In Portland, Niiya’s texts and emails with Gibson show him sometimes telling Gibson about the movements of counter-protesters, going so far as to tell Gibson if officers would be on foot or bike at protests.

“It is imperative for law enforcement to remain objective and professional, and in my opinion, these text messages appear to cross several boundaries,” the mayor said.

Off-duty Queens cop’s tourniquet saved life of motorcyclist in BQE crash

A Queens cop on her way to work rescued a badly-bleeding motorcyclist in a hit-and-run crash on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

Officer Mandeep Kaur was driving in her personal car to the 114th Precinct in Astoria when she spotted the woman on the eastbound shoulder of the highway, near Exit 43 in Woodside.

Kaur pulled over and told the 30-year-old woman to sit in the passenger seat while she called the 114th precinct to let her colleagues know she had stopped for an accident, and she’d be late for work.

After Kaur made the call, the motorcyclist told her her arm felt numb

Kaur helped her remove her leather jacket. “Blood started gushing out, and she was bleeding heavily,” the officer said.

She spotted a two-inch wound on the woman’s left arm, and quickly put her police academy training to use.

“The first thing from my training I remember is, if someone is heavily bleeding, you apply a tourniquet,” said Kaur. “I called the precinct again and I let them know she’s injured really badly, and to rush the ambulance.”

About 10 minutes later, an ambulance pulled up to take the woman to Elmhurst Hospital. She was reported in stable condition on Thursday night. Her name was not released.

The motorcyclist — who was on her way to work at a Con Ed facility in Astoria — told Kaur that a red tractor trailer without a license plate was switching lanes when it hit her and her bike. The driver did not stay on the scene, and cops said they were still looking for the vehicle Thursday evening.

EMTs said that Kaur’s decision to apply a tourniquet to the motorcyclist’s arm probably saved her life, the motorcyclist told the officer later.

South Sudan’s War on Women 2/20/2019

Survivors say rape has become “just a normal thing” for women caught up in South Sudan’s civil war

When government forces launched their attack on the village of Bauw in South Sudan’s Unity state in early summer, Nyaduri and several other women fled into the bush.

Their hiding place only gave them protection for so long. Fighters soon followed them.

In the end Nyaduri was spared, thanks to her visibly swollen pregnant belly. But she was made to watch as armed men raped four of her companions.

“If you run they will kill you, so you just close your eyes so you don’t see the rapes,” Nyaduri (not her real name) told us at the UN base near the town of Bentiu, where tens of thousands of people have fled in recent months.

After decades of vicious civil war, the world’s youngest nation enjoyed a brief period of calm after independence in 2011, before being plunged into a fresh conflict.

The violence in South Sudan — often gruesome, sometimes targeting civilians merely for their ethnicity or perceived political allegiance — has displaced 2 million people, and famine threatens too.

But new evidence suggests that the war’s toll on women and girls is particularly horrific.

Surge in Sexual Violence

In late April, South Sudan’s government, using its own soldiers and allied militia fighters, began a multi-pronged military campaign in Unity state to recapture territory held by rebels loyal to former vice president Riek Machar.

Amid the killing of civilians, widespread pillaging of cattle, and destruction of homes, scores of women have been subjected to appalling sexual violence. We documented dozens of cases of rape, including gang rapes. Almost every person we met had heard of or knew someone that government forces or their allied militias had raped. One woman said that rape had become “just a normal thing.”

Another woman told us that she was forced at gunpoint to watch militiamen gang rape her two adult daughters and then torture one of them. “They grabbed [my older daughter] and held her down in a fire and burned her face, her shoulder, and the length of her body,” she said. “They let go of her and left when she caught on fire.”

Women who evaded rape consider themselves fortunate “merely” to have been beaten. Women of all ages, including the elderly, were often battered with ropes or sticks. One woman was beaten so hard she had a miscarriage.

The militia fighters also abducted women and girls. Some raped women before kidnapping them as “wives” while taking others to put to work. Women and children were sometimes made to carry looted goods or to herd stolen cattle away from their villages on journeys that could last several days. Women were also forced to cook for fighters and were beaten as they worked. Many women are likely still in captivity.

The recent government offensive has prompted around 100,000 people in Unity state to flee their homes. Since April, 30,000 of them have sought refuge at the UN camp near Bentiu. Although UN peacekeepers protect the camp, women and girls remain at risk of sexual violence inside the camp, especially when collecting water or using unlit latrines at night. And leaving the camp poses threats too, especially the four-hour trek to collect firewood that requires crossing front lines around Bentiu.

The sheer scale of the crimes committed in the past few months is shocking, but the brutality of the assaults is sobering, too. Not only were many women gang raped in full view of others, but those who were too badly injured to attempt the journey to the UN camps and were left behind to fend for themselves.

Dealing with Atrocities

South Sudan’s justice system simply does not have the capacity to deal with crimes on this scale, and the government lacks the political will. These abuses have persisted because of decades of impunity.

The UN Security Council urgently needs to step in. It must either help establish an independent hybrid court or refer crimes committed in South Sudan to the International Criminal Court. The Security Council should also establish an arms embargo on both government and rebel forces.

Such moves may not help end the conflict, but they could help break the horrific cycle of violence engulfing South Sudan.

Unlike Nyaduri, who could only shut her eyes to escape the horrors unfolding in front of her, the international community has a choice. Its choice should be to open its eyes, see, and act. The women of South Sudan deserve no less.

Reward increased to $15,000 for info on 2016 murder of teenager burned to death 2/19/2019

Nearly two and a half years after 15-year-old Demetrius Griffin was burned to death on the West Side, his family has announced the reward for information about his killer has increased to $15,000.

Griffin, a freshman at Steinmetz High School, was found inside a burning trash can in the Austin neighborhood on Sept. 17, 2016. Officers discovered his body when they responded to a call of a refuse fire in the 5500 block of West Cortez Street.

The teenager’s death was ruled a homicide and an autopsy later determined he had been burned alive. His case has remain unsolved.

New contributions from community and faith leaders increased the reward from $10,000, Griffin’s aunt Rochelle Sykes said Monday.

Sykes said her family continues to be “heartbroken” by her nephew’s death.

Griffin’s image — along with those of four other child victims of Chicago violence — is included in a stained glass window at the West Side New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 4301 W. Washington Blvd. The window, Sykes said, will be officially unveiled Sunday.

Sykes said it’s important that people don’t hear about these cases and forget. For low-income families from poor neighborhoods, Sykes said, homicides are all too often “swept up under the rug.”

“That’s not right,” Sykes said. “No child deserves what he got. My family has no closure … and this city is doing nothing.”

He was not arrested for refusing to participate in the pledge – even though students have the right to do so by Florida law and district policy.

The sixth-grader from a Tampa suburb allegedly told his substitute teacher the flag is “racist” and the national anthem is offensive to black people, Bay News 9 reported, citing a statement the teacher gave the district.

In response, the teacher said she asked the student why not go to another place to live if it was “so bad here.” She said he answered, “They brought me here.”

The substitute, identified by district officials as Ana Alvarez, said, “Well, you can always go back because I came here from Cuba and the day I feel I’m not welcome here anymore, I would find another place to live.”

Alvarez said she called the office on Feb. 4 because she did no
