Tennessee supressing the black vote 4/17/2019

Tennessee state legislators want to add a new trick to its Jim Crow voter suppression playbook that could rival Georgia’s racist efforts that most recently proved successful during last year’s pivotal midterm elections.

In a 71-26 party-line vote, the state’s House approved a measure on Monday that would create restrictions on groups that hold voter registration drives and subject them to potential jail time and fines, the Tennessean reported. The bill is now winding its way through the state Senate.

Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett claimed the law seeks to preserve the integrity of the election process. But opponents said they believe it was created to target African-Americans after there was a surge in Black voter registration in 2018.

“(This bill) discourages people from volunteering in the Volunteer State,” said Tequila Johnson, co-founder of the Equity Alliance, one of several voter advocacy groups that protested the bill on Monday.

The legislation would put up roadblocks that would discourage traditional voter registration efforts at churches and other places.

“An organization registering 100 or more people would have to: provide the county elections coordinator with contact information for the people conducting the drive, notify the coordinator about where the drive is being held, complete voter registration training through the elections coordinator and file a sworn statement stating it’ll abide by all voter registration laws and procedures,” according to CNN.

Failure to comply could result in a criminal penalty.

Under another provision, individuals or organizations that submit 100 to 500 “deficient” voter registration applications could receive a fine ranging from $150 to $2,000. Submitting more than 500 “deficient” forms could result in a fine of up to $10,000.

Meanwhile, Democrats in the U.S. House were investigating Georgia’s voter suppression efforts in November.

In March, The House Oversight and Reform Committee asked Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and his secretary of state successor Brad Raffensperger, both Republicans, to turn over documents related to the elections.

Kemp as Georgia secretary of state oversaw his own race for governor, which was close but ended in defeat for Stacey Abrams. There was damning evidence that pointed to Kemp using a variety of voter suppression tactics to target Black voters in particular. Abrams was competing to become the nation’s first Black woman governor.

Kemp found himself in the middle of a firestorm before Election Day when the Associated Press reported his office had placed more than 53,000 voter registration applications on hold—about 70 percent of them from African-Americans. He also faced multiple lawsuits, including one from a group of voting rights organizations accusing him of using a racially-biased method to purge the names of about 700,000 voters from the rolls. And on Election Day, predominantly African-American urban districts encountered lots of problems at the polls.

Some academics joined activists in criticizing Tennessee’s suppression effort.

The Destruction Of The confederated Statues Across America

The destruction of the Confederate statues across america can and is met with alot of controversy around this country. I do believe that Racism need to be abolished and every symbol of racism need not to show its face anywhere in a free nation. You can’t call America a free nation if you continue to subjugate the minority population of that nation, You can’t call your nation free when the law tilts in the favor of one group of people over the other group of people. You can’t call your nation a free nation if you have Confederate statue blanketed in every city and town that you visit.

These confederates represent the enslavement and killing and the down right brain washing of another nation. Countless hangings of innocent people that did nothing to the southern man but be born. The unbelievable profit that the southern white’s generated from free laber that these so called black people provided while the people that profited just sat on the porch of the homes andf was paid unheard of amount of money for basically doing nothing. The countless death and rapes of the black woman and new reports that came out lately that the black man was also sexually accosted as well. I can go on and on why these statues need to be taken down.It was a dark area of the united states that hopefully most black and white American’s wish to forget. That is why most if not all of these statues are being taking down. But there are people out there will see this is some kind of ploy to destroy white nationalism.

In my opinion these statues and monuments should not have been put up in the first place. These monuments should have never seen the light of day because these southern soldiers and general lost the civil war. Its like the North and the South both got messages that they won the war when it was the North that won the war. You have more confederate statues up around the United States then you have Union Soldiers that are in the United State.

Statues are only given to the victor of the the war not the loser. But still these statues are every where in every city and county and most of us just walk right past them and don’t realize who or what a certain statue that they are looking at represents. I was in Atlanta and i was in a park and being absorbent that i am i walk up to one of these statue and sure enough there it was a confederate soldier just standing there with the expression of pride in its face. Then i read the message and i walked away.

Sure ever person every nation deserves a culture even the people of the old south. But the old south was bloody and evil to it’s core. What i would say for these statues is that even these men who lived in the south at that time was fighting for something they knew all there lives and could not be blamed for fighting for something like keeping there slaves and keeping there culture because it was all there knew since birth. The normal man should no the difference between right and wrong But that is a little difficult if your parents talked bad about black people . Your friend talked bad about black people , Basically your whole world talked bad about black people that did not know how to read and write because they was not allowed to and at that time if you was around most slaves at that time they probably did not smell so good. I am not giving these southern people a pass on common sense by no means!!!!

What they should do with these statues are to create a confederate museum . I do not believe in destroying no form of history at all even this evil history of our great nation. If you destroy these monuments you will in time repeat history. In fact !! I would not be surprise if that was not the plan in the first place. If you destroy these statues it’s like giving permision to repeat the people in history mistake of enslaving black people.

To destroy history is a mistake and that history are in books for a reason not for us to make the same mistake twice . That is the purpose of recording history. But if you destroy history history will repeat it’s self.

Daycare Worker Caught on Video Pulling Young Black Girl’s Hair, Forcing Her to Eat

Lubbock, TX — My Little Playhouse, a daycare center in Texas, is under fire after one of its workers was caught on video pulling a young black girl’s hair trying to make her eat her food. Police and state officials are now investigating the situation.

The video shows the daycare worker pulling on the girl’s braided hair, seemingly forcing her to follow her instructions and eat in a cafeteria while other children are around.

The officials of the daycare, My Little Playhouse, confirmed that the worker shown on the video and the worker who took the video has been terminated already.

They have issued a statement saying, “The owners and Directors of My Little Playhouse Learning Center LLC were made aware of video footage posted on social media at approximately 11:45 a.m. Staff involved were fired immediately. Local authorities (LPD) has been notified and are investigating accordingly. Texas Department of Childcare Licensing has also been notified.”

Paul Zimmerman, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said that the agency will also conduct an investigation regarding the incident for apparent abuse or neglect. The Department of Health and Human Resources, which handles licenses for child care providers, will decide depending on the results of the investigation.

Meanwhile, Shanna Walker, the grandmother of the girl on the video was shocked and furious when she watched the video 20 minutes before she came to the daycare to pick up her granddaughter. She thought that the daycare workers are “supposed to be people that are taking care of [the kids] that has their well being at heart,” she told WLBT.

“I know that everyone thinks that their grandchildren are the best,” she added. “But this little girl, she is the sweetest little girl that you could ever know. And she’s very quiet and very timid. So, for her to sit there and just to pull on her hair — it’s very infuriating. I mean I’m standing here right now, feeling like I’m about to boil over.”
